The Thurgoona Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Bulldogs'', is an Australian rules football and netball club playing in the Tallangatta & District Football League. The club is based in Thurgoona, New South Wales Thurgoona Football Club won their first premiership in the Albury District Football Association in 1900 defeating Black Range at Jindera Park, to win the Swain Trophy. History The first recorded match involving Thurgoona FC was in 1883 when they played Wodonga FC, at Wodonga in July, 1883. Tallangatta & District Football League
The Tallangatta and District Football League (TDFL) is an Australian rules football competition in north-east Victoria and the southern border area of Riverina region of the New South Wales. The clubs compete across four competitions, two of which are age restricted (Under 17s, and Under 14s). Since 1980 the "Tallangatta & District Netball Association (TDNA)" has run in conjunction with the Tallangatta & District Football League. The clubs compete across six competitions, three of which are age restricted (18 & Under, 15 & Under, and 13 & Under). Today all of the 12 clubs across both the TDFL & TDNA are joint Football Netball Clubs, with the overall best club across all football and netball competitions for the season awarded the Club Championship. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). Netball is a ball sport played on a court by two teams of seven players. It is among a rare number of sports which have been created exclusively for female competitors. The sport is played on indoor and outdoor netball courts and is specifically played in schools. Netball is most popularly played in Commonwealth of Nations, Commonwealth nations. Thurgoona, New South Wales
Thurgoona is an outer suburb of the regional city of Albury in southern New South Wales, Australia. The suburb is located in the City of Albury local government area. History Thurgoona Post Office opened on 1 January 1874, closing in 1961. The first land release in Thurgoona was St Johns Hill in 1978, followed by St Jones Green in 1980, Corrys Wood in 1981, St Hilaire in 1985 and Thurgoona Park in 1986. The 1980s were a time of massive growth and development in Thurgoona. Thurgoona Drive and Elizabeth Mitchell Drive were completed by 1982, connecting Thurgoona to Albury via the Hume and Riverina Highways. Soon after the Thurgoona Golf Club opened its first 9 holes in 1983, followed by a further 9 holes in 1985. In 1986 the Albury-Wodonga Corporation moved its headquarters to Thurgoona.
