Frank Mayo (actor)
Frank Lorimer Mayo (June 28, 1889 – July 9, 1963) was an American actor. He appeared in 310 films between 1911 and 1949. Biography He was born in New York City, the son of actor Frank M. Mayo, and he died in Laguna Beach, California, from a heart attack. He was married to actress Dagmar Godowsky from 1921 to 1926. The marriage was annulled in August 1926 on the ground that Mayo had another wife. Mayo was buried at the Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills Cemetery in Los Angeles. George Gebhardt (September 21, 1879 – May 2, 1919) was an American silent film actor. He appeared in more than 120 films between 1908 and 1922. He was born in Basel, Switzerland and died in Edendale, Los Angeles from tuberculosis. William Fildew
William Ewart Fildew, billed as either William Fildew or William E. Fildew, was an American cinematographer during the silent film era. He shot 54 films between 1915 and 1927. His first film was 1915's ''The Lost House'', directed by Christy Cabanne and starring Lillian Gish. That same year he also shot ''Martyrs of the Alamo'', directed by Cabanne, which was the first film in which Douglas Fairbanks appeared. Fairbanks' first starring role, also in 1915, was '' The Lamb'', which Fildew also shot. His final film was '' The Wreck'', directed by William James Craft and starring Shirley Mason and Malcolm McGregor. Claire McDowell ( MacDowell; November 2, 1877 – October 23, 1966) was an American actress of the silent era. She appeared in 350 films between 1908 and 1945. Early years Claire MacDowell was born in New York City on November 2, 1877, the daughter of Eugene A. MacDowell and Fanny Reeves. Her aunt, actress Fanny Davenport, gave her early training in acting. Fanny Davenport's second husband was Eugene's brother Melbourne MacDowell. Career When she was 17, she was an understudy in a theatrical company headed by Charles Frohman. Still something of a youthful beauty, McDowell appeared in numerous short, early feature films. She graduated to playing character and mother types. She appeared in Douglas Fairbanks' '' The Mark of Zorro'' (1920). McDowell costarred in two of the biggest films of the silent era, ''The Big Parade'' and '' Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ'', in which she played mothers both times. Nicholas Benton "Ben" Alexander III (June 27, 1911 – July 5, 1969) was an American motion picture actor, who started out as a child actor in 1916. He is best remembered for his role as Officer Frank Smith in the ''Dragnet'' franchise. Life and career Ben Alexander was born in Goldfield, Nevada, and raised in California. Alexander made his screen debut at age of five in ''Every Pearl a Tear''. He went on to portray Lillian Gish's young brother in D. W. Griffith's ''Hearts of the World''. After a number of silent films, he retired from screen work, but came back for the World War I classic, ''All Quiet on the Western Front'' (1930), in which Alexander received good notices as an adult actor as "Kemmerick", the tragic amputation victim. He played lead and second lead roles in many low-budget films throughout the 1930s.
