Brianna Throssell
Brianna Throssell (born 10 February 1996) is an Australian professional swimmer currently representing DC Trident at the International Swimming League. Throssell competed in the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics, where she won seven bronze medals. She represented her country at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro where she finished third in the semi-finals with a time of 2:07:19 behind Zhou Yilin and Zhang Yufei. She qualified for the final and finished last with a time of 2:07:87. Throssell again represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics, held in Tokyo in 2021, where she swam in the 100m and 200m butterfly events, coming in 8th place in the final of the 200m event. She won a gold medal in the Women's 4 x 100 metre medley relay and a bronze medal in the Mixed 4 x 100 metre medley relay after swimming the butterfly leg in the heats for both events. George Throssell
George Lionel Throssell (23 May 1840 – 30 August 1910) was the second Premier of Western Australia. He served for just three months, from 15 February to 27 May 1901, during a period of great instability in Western Australian politics. George Throssell was born at Fermoy, County Cork, Ireland, on 23 May 1840. The son of a Pensioner Guard, he came to Western Australia on board the '' Scindian'' in 1850 with his parents, and was educated at the Perth Public School. He began his own business as a produce merchant, "Geo. Throssell & Co.", in the town of Northam in 1861 and served as the Northam postmaster from 1864 to 1874. Throssell became owner of a flour mill, farms and a chain of shops; in 1885 his company became "Throssell & Son" with the admission of his son Lionel, and the following year with the addition of W. The role of premier at a state level is similar to the role of the prime minister of Australia at a federal level. The premier leads the executive branch of the Government of Western Australia and is accountable to the Parliament of Western Australia. The premier is appointed by the governor of Western Australia. By convention, the governor appoints as premier whoever has the support of the majority of the Western Australian Legislative Assembly. Hugo Vivian Hope Throssell
Hugo Vivian Hope Throssell, VC (26 October 1884 – 19 November 1933) was an Australian soldier in the First World War who was the first Western Australian and only Australian light horseman to receive the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest award for valour in battle that could be awarded to a member of the Australian armed forces at the time. Early life Hugo Vivian Hope Throssell was born in Northam, Western Australia on 26 October 1884, the son of George Throssell, who was later briefly Premier of Western Australia, and his wife Anne, Morrell. Hugo was one of fourteen children born to the couple. He was educated at Prince Alfred College in Adelaide from January 1896 to December 1902, where, nicknamed "Jimmy", he was a noted athlete, and captain of three intercollegiate sports teams. Victoria Cross
The Victoria Cross (VC) is the highest and most prestigious award of the British honours system. It is awarded for valour "in the presence of the enemy" to members of the British Armed Forces and may be awarded posthumously. It was previously awarded by countries of the Commonwealth of Nations, most of which have established their own honours systems and no longer recommend British honours. It may be awarded to a person of any military rank in any service and to civilians under military command. No civilian has received the award since 1879. Ric Throssell (10 May 192220 April 1999) was an Australian diplomat and author whose writings included novels, plays, film and television scripts, and memoirs. For most of his professional life as a diplomat his career was dogged by unproven allegations that he either leaked classified information to his mother, the writer and communist Katharine Susannah Prichard, or was himself a spy for the Soviet Union. Early life Richard Prichard Throssell was born in 1922 in Western Australia, in the Perth suburb of Greenmount. His father was Hugo Throssell, a winner of the Victoria Cross Retrieved 23 April 2020 at Gallipoli in 1915, and son of a former Premier of Western Australia, George Throssell. His mother was the writer Katharine Susannah Prichard. Ric was their only child.
