Thrissur Aquatic Complex
Thrissur Aquatic Complex is a swimming pool complex situated in Thrissur city of Kerala in India. History The complex was built in 1987 in three and half acres of land and was inaugurated by former Kerala Chief Minister K. Karunakaran. Vinod Rai, then Collector of Thrissur District was instrumental in building the aquatic complex. It was the second aquatic complex built in India after the 1982 Asian Games. National Games of 1987 was the first event held in the complex. Race pool, diving pool, indoor practice pool, gymnasium are the other facilities available in the complex. Thrissur (), formerly Trichur, also known by its historical name Thrissivaperur, is a city and the headquarters of the Thrissur district in Kerala, India. It is the third largest urban agglomeration in Kerala after Kochi and Kozhikode, and the 21st largest in India. The city is built around a hillock called the Thekkinkaadu Maidaanam which seats a large Hindu Shiva Temple. It is located central of the state, and north-west of the state's capital city, Thiruvananthapuram. Vinod Rai (born 23 May 1948) is a former IAS officer who served as the 11th Comptroller and Auditor General of India. He assumed office on 7 January 2008 till 22 May 2013. He is the current chairman of UN Panel of External Auditors and Honorary Advisor to the Indian Railways and a member of the Railway Kaya Kalp Council. The 9th Asian Games ( hi, 1982 एशियाई खेल) were held from 19 November to 4 December 1982, in Delhi, India. 74 Asian and Asian Games records were broken at the event. This was also the first Asiad to be held under the aegis of the Olympic Council of Asia. Delhi joined Bangkok as the cities to host multiple editions of the Asian Games up to this point.
