Three Oaks railway station serves the village of Three Oaks in East Sussex, England. It is on the Marshlink Line, and train services are provided by Southern. It was originally known as Three Oaks & Guestling. History The railway line between Ashford and was opened by the South Eastern Railway in 1851, but originally there were no stations between and Hastings. opened in 1888, and with the introduction of steam railmotor services between and Hastings, three halts were opened between Winchelsea and Ore on 1 July 1907: ; ; and ''Three Oaks Bridge Halt''. Three Oaks, East Sussex
Guestling is a village and civil parish in the Rother district of East Sussex, England. The village is located north-east of Hastings on the A259 road to Rye. Its parish church is dedicated to St Laurence. History Guestling, referred to in the Domesday Book (1086) as ''Gestelinges'', was originally named as a settlement of the family of a man named ''Gyrstel''. The Domesday entry records that the village consisted in 1086 of 21 households, 14 villagers and 7 cottagers. In 1542, Gregory Martin was born in Guestling and went on to do the majority of the translation for the Douay–Rheims Bible, the first full official Catholic English Bible translation. David St John Thomas (30 August 1929 – 19 August 2014) was an English publisher and writer who founded David & Charles. Early life and career The son of writer Gilbert Thomas (1891–1978) he shared his father's enthusiasm for railways, particularly in the running of their Bassett-Lowke model railway. Brought up in Devon over the World War II period, his first job was as a reporter on the ''Western Morning News'' in Plymouth where he specialised in covering transport and holiday stories. Southern is the brand name used by the Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) train operating company on the Southern routes of the Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern franchise in England. Ashford International railway station is a National Rail station in Ashford, Kent, England. It connects several railway lines, including High Speed 1 and the South Eastern Main Line.
