Three Mothers (2006 Film)
''Three Mothers'' (Hebrew: שלוש אמהות, ''Shalosh Imahot'') is a 2006 Israeli drama film, directed by Dina Zvi-Riklis. Plot synopsis The film follows three sisters who were born as triplets: Rose, Flora and Yasmeen. The sisters grow up in a prosperous family in Egypt, and are visited by King Farouk. The film moves between the current-day relationship of the sisters, now in their sixties, and their story from when they were young, as they relate it to Ruha, Rose's daughter. The girls' mother died young, when the family lived in Alexandria. The widowed father decides to move to Tel Aviv, in Israel, where he opens a large shop. Rose, who is fiercely independent, begins a relationship with a young man her father does not approve of. When she becomes pregnant, marriage becomes a priority for all the sisters. Gila Almagor Agmon ( he, גילה אלמגור אגמון; born Gila Alexandrowitz; July 22, 1939) is an Israeli actress, film star, and author. In Israel, she is known as "queen of the Israeli cinema and theatre". Biography Gila Alexandrowitz (Almagor) was born in Petah Tikva to Jewish emigrant parents from Europe. Her German-Jewish father Max Alexandrowitz was killed by an Arab sniper while working as a policeman in Haifa four months before she was born. Her mother Chaya was from a Polish Orthodox Jewish family. Almagor grew up caring for her mother, who was slowly losing her sanity after realising that all her family in Europe had been murdered in the Holocaust. When her mother was institutionalized in 1954, Almagor was sent to Hadassim youth village. Two years later, she moved to Tel Aviv, rented a room near Habima Theatre, and applied to acting school. Farouk Of Egypt
Farouk I (; ar, فاروق الأول ''Fārūq al-Awwal''; 11 February 1920 – 18 March 1965) was the tenth ruler of Egypt from the Muhammad Ali dynasty and the penultimate King of Egypt and the Sudan, succeeding his father, Fuad I, in 1936. His full title was "His Majesty Farouk I, by the grace of God, King of Egypt and the Sudan". As king, Farouk was known for his extravagant playboy lifestyle. While initially popular, his reputation eroded due to the corruption and incompetence of his government. He was overthrown in the 1952 coup d'etat, and forced to abdicate in favour of his infant son, Ahmed Fuad, who succeeded him as Fuad II. Farouk died in exile in Italy in 1965. The Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema (French: Festival international des cinémas d'Asie) is an annual special-interest film festival focusing on the cinemas of Asia. The festival is held annually in Vesoul, France. It was created in 1995 by Martine and Jean-Marc Thérouanne who have been codirecting the festival since then. The highest award of the festival is the Golden Cyclo Award. Other awards include the Special Langues "O" Award, given by the French National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations and the Emile Guimet Award by the Friends Association of National Museum of Asian Arts-Guimet at the festival. In the 17th edition of the festival, which attracted an audience of 28,700, three awards were given to the Chinese film "Addicted to Love" by director Liu Hao. Miri Mesika ( he, מירי מסיקה; born May 3, 1978) is an Israeli singer and actress. She won several Israeli Female Singer of the Year awards. She has sold more than 200,000 copies of her albums in Israel. Biography Miri Mesika was born and grew up in Herzliya, Israel, to a Sephardic-Mizrahi Jewish family.
