Three Kings (play)
''Three Kings'' is a one-person play by Stephen Beresford. Production history The play premiered as part of The Old Vic, London's ''Old Vic: In Camera'' series broadcasting performances live from The Old Vic's empty auditorium to audiences worldwide during the COVID-19 pandemic. The play was written for and performed by Andrew Scott as Patrick and directed by Matthew Warchus, with Katy Rudd as associate director. The play was due to be performed from 29 July to 1 August 2020, however Scott was forced to undergo minor surgery. The play was postponed to 3 to 5 September 2020. The playtext will be published by Nick Hern Books on 10 September 2020. Critical reception The play received positive reviews from critics and audiences with four star reviews from ''The Guardian'', ''The Telegraph ''The Telegraph'', ''Daily Telegraph'', ''Sunday Telegraph'' and other variant names are popular names for newspapers. Stephen Beresford
Stephen Beresford (born c. 1972) is an English actor and writer. He is best known for writing the play ''The Last of the Haussmans'', produced by the National Theatre in 2012, and the 2014 historical comedy ''Pride'', which won the Queer Palm award at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival. Early life Beresford was born in London and raised in Dartmouth. He began acting with a local children's drama group when he was nine years old, and later attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Career After several years of professional work, Beresford found acting not fulfilling enough, and began writing scripts, with several sold to Channel 4 though not produced. Inspired by his upbringing in Dartmouth, he wrote ''The Last of the Haussmans'' and submitted it to the National Theatre. In her review, Kate Kellaway of ''The Observer'' wrote: "It is with disbelief that one discovers that ''The Last of the Haussmans'' is actor Stephen Beresford's first play. The Old Vic
The Old Vic is a 1,000-seat, nonprofit organization, not-for-profit producing house, producing theatre in Waterloo, London, Waterloo, London, England. Established in 1818 as the Royal Coburg Theatre, and renamed in 1833 the Royal Victoria Theatre. In 1871 it was rebuilt and reopened as the Royal Victoria Palace. It was taken over by Emma Cons in 1880 and formally named the Royal Victoria Hall, although by that time it was already known as the "Old Vic". Matthew Warchus
Matthew Warchus (born 24 October 1966) is a British theatre director, filmmaker, lyricist, and playwright. He has been the Artistic Director of London's The Old Vic since September 2015. Personal life Warchus is married to American actress Lauren Ward, who originated the role of Miss Honey in the Stratford-upon-Avon, London, and Broadway productions of ''Matilda the Musical''.
