''Thrashback'' is the sixth full-length studio album by American thrash metal band Whiplash (band), Whiplash. It was released via Massacre Records and follows the previous year's offering, ''Sit Stand Kneel Prey''. The album marked a return to the three-piece line-up which recorded the band's first two albums between 1985 and 1987 – famously all called Tony. In 1999, Massacre Records released a compilation of previously unavailable demo and live tracks, entitled ''Messages in Blood'', before the untimely death of Tony Bono. Loudwire named ''Thrashback'' the best thrash metal album of 1998. Whiplash is an American thrash metal band formed in 1984 in Passaic, New Jersey. The band has been centered around guitarist and vocalist Tony Portaro, who is the only constant member of the lineup. Despite never achieving major success, Whiplash has been recognized as one of the first East Coast thrash metal bands in the 1980s, and they are also notable for featuring drummer Tony Scaglione, who had been in and out of Whiplash since its inception and was a temporary fill-in for Dave Lombardo in Slayer on the latter's ''Reign in Blood'' tour. ''Sit Stand Kneel Prey'' is the fifth studio album by American thrash metal band Whiplash. It was released in September 1997 via Massacre Records and comes only one year after their previous album, ''Cult of One''. Vocalist Rob Gonzo's stay was short-lived and Warren Conditi stepped in to take up vocal as well as guitar duties. Tony Scaglione also left and was replaced by Bob Candella on drums – leaving Portaro as the only remaining Tony of the original Tony trio. Michael Pinnella
Michael Pinnella (born August 29, 1969) is an American keyboard player, most notably for the band Symphony X. Michael is one of two Symphony X members to appear on all nine of the band's albums (the other being Michael Romeo). He has released two solo albums, titled Enter By the Twelfth Gate (2004) and Ascension (2014), mostly composed of instrumental, classical-styled progressive metal. In 2016, Pinnella ranked #11 in Loudwire's Top 25 Rock + Metal Keyboardists of All Time, praised for being an "essential component of Symphony X’s overarching epic nature". Massacre Records is an independent record label based in Abstatt, Germany, that specializes in bands of the heavier genres of metal. The label was founded in 1991 by Torsten Hartmann. Michael James Romeo (born March 6, 1968) is an American guitarist and a founding member of the progressive metal group Symphony X. He is one of two members to appear on every Symphony X release (the other being Michael Pinnella). Romeo was ranked #91 out of 100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time by Guitar World.
