The word ''thou'' is a second-person singular pronoun in English. It is now largely archaic, having been replaced in most contexts by the word ''you'', although it remains in use in parts of Northern England and in Scots (). ''Thou'' is the nominative form; the oblique/objective form is ''thee'' (functioning as both accusative and dative); the possessive is ''thy'' (adjective) or ''thine'' (as an adjective before a vowel or as a possessive pronoun); and the reflexive is ''thyself''. A thousandth of an inch is a derived unit of length in a system of units using inches. Equal to of an inch, a thousandth is commonly called a thou (used for both singular and plural) or particularly in North America a mil (plural mils). The words are shortened forms of the English and Latin words for "thousand" ( in Latin). In international engineering contexts, confusion can arise because ''mil'' is a formal unit name in North America but ''mil'' or ''mill'' is also a common colloquial clipped form of millimetre. Louis-Marie Aubert Du Petit-Thouars
Louis-Marie Aubert du Petit-Thouars (5 November 1758, Bournois – 12 May 1831, Paris) was an eminent French botanist known for his work collecting and describing orchids from the three islands of Madagascar, Mauritius and Réunion. Introduction Petit-Thouars came from an aristocratic family of the region of Anjou, where he grew up in the castle of Boumois, near Saumur. In 1792, after an imprisonment of two years during the French Revolution, he was exiled to Madagascar and the nearby islands such as La Réunion (then called Bourbon). He started collecting many plant specimens on Madagascar, Mauritius and La Réunion. Ten years later he was able to return to France with a collection of about 2000 plants. Most of his collection went to the ''Muséum de Paris'', while some species ended up at Kew. He was elected member of the prestigious ''Académie des Sciences'' on 10 April 1820. Thou is a Belgian rock band from Ghent. The band consists of Does de Wolf (vocals, organ), Bart Vincent (vocals, guitar), Pim de Wolf (guitar), Bart Depoortere (bass), Kurt De Vylder (drums, percussion, Rhodes) until January 2000, Geert De Waegeneer (drums) from January 2000, and Hans Rabaey (sound engineer). History Thou released its first EP ''Une Poupee Pour M'amuser'' in 1997, which was followed by the debut album, ''Hello in This Sun'', in 1998. Thou is an American sludge metal band formed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in 2005. The current lineup of the band consists of Bryan Funck (vocals), Andy Gibbs (guitar), Matthew Thudium (guitar and vocals), Mitch Wells (bass), KC Stafford (guitar and vocals), and Tyler Coburn (drums). History The band was formed by guitarists Andy Gibbs and Matthew Thudium, bassist Mitch Wells, and drummer Terry Gulino. Jacques Auguste de Thou (Thuanus) (8 October 1553, Paris – 7 May 1617, Paris) was a French historian, book collector and president of the Parliament of Paris. Life Jacques Auguste de Thou was the grandson of , president of the Parliament of Paris (d. 1544), and the third son of Christophe de Thou (d. 1582), '' premier président'' of the same '' parlement'', who had had ambitions to produce a history of France. His uncle was Nicolas de Thou, Bishop of Chartres (1573–1598). With this family background, he developed a love of literature, a firm but tolerant piety, and a loyalty to the Crown. Christophe De Thou
Christophe de Thou (1508 – 1 November 1582) was an eminent French advocate, and the First President of the Parliament of Paris. De Thou became Président in 1554, and Premier Président on 14 December 1562, of the Parlement de Paris. He also served as chancellor to the Duke of Anjou and Duke of Alençon, and advisor to Henry II of France, Charles IX of France, and Henry III of France. De Thou was a member of a respected family from Champagne. He was son of Augustin de Thou (d. 1544) and Claude de Thou (d 1523), also Président of the Parlement de Paris, and brother to Nicolas de Thou, the Bishop of Chartres. His son, Jacques Auguste de Thou (1553–1617), became a noted French historian. He was also the husband of Jacqueline de Tuleu and father of Anne de Thou and Jacques Auguste de Thou. References * R.
