Thornburg House is a historic home located at Barboursville, Cabell County, West Virginia. It was built in 1901, and is a two-story brick and frame dwelling with irregular massing, varied roof shapes, and large porches in the Queen Anne style. It features a corner turret with a pointed roof and a wraparound porch. Also on the property is a contributing privy. Barboursville, West Virginia
Barboursville is a village in Cabell County, West Virginia. It is located near the second largest city in the state, Huntington. The population was 4,258 in the 2019 census estimate. Barboursville is a part of the Huntington–Ashland metropolitan area. History Barboursville was platted in 1813. The Barboursville Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. The Thornburg House was separately listed in 1991. Barboursville also contains the historic Miller House, a building constructed in 1835 by local pioneer William Clendenin Miller, grandson of Major George Clendenin (Served under Lt. Colonel Daniel Boone in the 1774 Battle of Point Pleasant, and along with Boone was the first representative of Kanawha County, and incidentally what would become Cabell County. Cabell County is located in the U.S. state of West Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 94,350, making it West Virginia's fourth most-populous county. Its county seat is Huntington. The county was organized in 1809 and named for William H. Cabell, the Governor of Virginia from 1805 to 1808. Cabell County is part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH Metropolitan Statistical Area. Queen Anne Style Architecture In The United States
Queen Anne style architecture was one of a number of popular Victorian architectural styles that emerged in the United States during the period from roughly 1880 to 1910. Popular there during this time, it followed the Second Empire and Stick styles and preceded the Richardsonian Romanesque and Shingle styles. Sub-movements of Queen Anne include the Eastlake movement. The style bears almost no relationship to the original Queen Anne style architecture in Britain (a toned-down version of English Baroque that was used mostly for gentry houses) which appeared during the time of Queen Anne, who reigned from 1702 to 1714, nor of Queen Anne Revival (which appeared in the latter 19th century there).
