Thorns, Spines, And Prickles
In plant morphology, thorns, spines, and prickles, and in general spinose structures (sometimes called ''spinose teeth'' or ''spinose apical processes''), are hard, rigid extensions or modifications of leaves, roots, stems or buds with sharp, stiff ends, and generally serve the same function: physically deterring animals from eating the plant material. Description In common language the terms are used more or less interchangeably, but in botanical terms, thorns are derived shoots (so that they may or may not be branched, they may or may not have leaves, and they may or may not arise from a bud),Simpson, M. Enslaved (band)
Enslaved is a Norwegian extreme metal band formed by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson in Haugesund in June 1991. They are currently based in Bergen. The band's lineup has changed many times over the years, and Bjørnson and Kjellson have been the sole constant members. The current lineup also includes lead guitarist Arve Isdal, keyboardist/singer Håkon Vinje, and drummer Iver Sandøy. The band's music draws heavily on the Viking cultural and religious heritage of their home country of Norway for inspiration, and most of the band's lyrics relate to Norse mythology. Though they began as a traditional black metal band their sound has undergone significant changes over time resulting in a more progressive sound. In 2014, members of Enslaved were commissioned by the Norwegian government to create a musical piece in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian constitution. This was later released as a studio album called ''Skuggsjá'' in 2016. To date, the bands has releas ...

''The Thorn'' features four of the band's tracks recorded with orchestral instrumentation: " Overground" originally appeared on the Banshees' debut album ''The Scream''; "Placebo Effect" was a song from their second album '' Join Hands'', while "Voices" and "Red Over White" were previously released as B-sides from the singles " Hong Kong Garden" and "Israel", respectively. The recording took place in Bavaria, in Germany. Release ''The Thorn'' was released on 19 October 1984 by record label Polydor. The songs from the EP wer ...

Thorns (Thorns Album)
''Thorns'' is the debut studio album by Norwegian black metal band Thorns. It was released in 2001, through Moonfog Productions. The album features guest appearances from Satyr (of Satyricon), Aldrahn (of Dødheimsgard) and Hellhammer (of Mayhem). Stylistically, ''Thorns'' is quite different from both ''Trøndertun'' and the first Thorns demo, '' Grymyrk''. While it retains the eerie riff structures of those early releases, it displays a strong industrial influence, particularly on tracks like "Shifting Channels" and "Underneath the Universe, Part 1". Samples The samples "Jesus, what a mind-job" and "So, you're here to save the world" in the song "Existence" are taken from the 1999 film ''The Matrix''. Thorn (album)
''Thorn'' (Chinese: 芒刺; pinyin: ''Mángcì'') is the fourth studio album by seminal Chinese progressive metal band Tang Dynasty, released on November 8, 2013. Composition, themes, and recording The album title comes from a Book of Han proverb "Thorn on one's back" (), referring to a constant feeling of anxiety or unease. The band believed this idiom reflected both their own feelings during the album's creation, as well as the situation of every Chinese person alive in the modern world. The album's unifying concepts were world peace and environmental preservation; many of the song titles contain references to animals or plants. ''Thorn'' took almost three years to record, with frontman Ding Wu overseeing every aspect of recording and production. Ding explained the band's decision to produce the album independently, saying "today's recording industry as a whole is not thriving. Traditional recording practices are completely obsolete, and record labels do not accommodate the a ...

They made two highly influential demos in the early 1990s, ''Grymyrk'' and ''Trøndertun'', but have only released one full-length album. History In 1989, Snorre Westvold Ruch (born January 21, 1972), also known under the stage name Blackthorn, and Marius Vold formed the band Stigma Diabolicum and recorded one demo.Thorns: ''Stigma Diabolicum'' (A5 Leatherbook version), Kyrck Productions 2007. In 1990, bass player Harald Eilertsen and drummer Bård „Faust“ Eithun joined. As the use of Latin within black metal "had escalated" (according to the ''Stigma Diabolicum'' re-release booklet), the name was changed to Thorns in 1991. The same year, Eilertsen and Ruch recorded the '' Grymyrk'' demo, which had a great impact on the black metal scene and, together with Mayhem guitarist Euronymous, coined the Norwegian black metal riffing, as Darkthrone drummer Fenriz points ...
