Thorleif Lund
Thorleif Brinck Lund (7 June 1880 – 30 June 1956) was a Norwegian stage and film actor of the silent film era. Early life Thorleif Lund was born in Stavanger, Norway to parents Hans Geelmuyden Lund and Bertella Karen Lauritza Bertelsen in 1880. Thorlief Lund made his stage debut as an actor at the Nationaltheatret (The National Theater) in Oslo in 1905. He also appeared at the Centraltheatret (Central Theater) in Oslo, and then on Den Nationale Scene theater in Bergen from 1908 to 1913. In 1914, Lund made his film debut in the Scandinavian-Russian Handelshus in Copenhagen, Denmark where he participated in several films before he left the same year to sign a contract with Nordisk Film where he spent the next three years playing in some 35 films. In September 1917, the forced deteriorating economic conditions caused by World War I caused Nordisk Film to terminate their contracts with some 50 actors; including Thorleif Lund. Stavanger (, , US usually , ) is a city and municipality in Norway. It is the fourth largest city and third largest metropolitan area in Norway (through conurbation with neighboring Sandnes) and the administrative center of Rogaland county. ''The End of the World'' ( da, Verdens Undergang) is a 1916 Danish science fiction drama film directed by August Blom and written by Otto Rung, starring Olaf Fønss and Ebba Thomsen. The film depicts a worldwide catastrophe when an errant comet passes by Earth and causes natural disasters and social unrest. Blom and his crew created special effects for the comet disaster using showers of fiery sparks and shrouds of smoke. The film attracted a huge audience because of fears generated during the passing of Halley's comet six years earlier, as well as the ongoing turbulence and unrest of World War I. The film is also known as ''The Flaming Sword''. It was restored by the Danish Film Institute and released on DVD in 2006. Gentofte
Gentofte () is a district of Gentofte Municipality in the northern suburbs of Copenhagen, Denmark. Major landmarks include Gentofte Town Hall, Gentofte Hospital and Gentofte Church. Gentofte Lake with surrounding parkland and nature reserves form the most important greenspace. Geography Gentofte is roughly bounded by Lyngbyvej to the west, the S-train line to Hillerød to the northeast, Bernstorffsvej to the east and Kildegårdsvej to the south. The southern border with Hellerup is, however, not clearly defined. Gentofte postal district has a somewhat different definition. Gentofte, as defined by Gentofte Municipality, covers circa 335 hectares or 13% of the municipality's total. Magasin is a Danish chain of department stores. It has seven department stores with its flagship store located on Kongens Nytorv in Copenhagen. The company is a subsidiary of the German department store retailer Peek & Cloppenburg Düsseldorf, Magasin du Nord has been a founder and remained member of the International Association of department stores since 1928. History The company traces its roots back to 1868 when Theodor Wessel and Emil Vett opened a draper's shop in Aarhus under the name Emil Vett & Co. It was an immediate success and in 1871 moved to Immervad where the Aarhus store is still located. In 1870 the company opened a shop in Copenhagen in rented rooms in the mondain Hotel du Nord on Kongens Nytorv where Hans Christian Andersen had boarded from 1838 until 1847. Astra Film Corp was an American film production company that produced silent films. Louis J. Gasnier was the company's president. George B. Seitz co-founded it. It was making films by 1916. It became Louis J. Gasnier Productions after Seitz left. The studio operated in Jersey City, New Jersey before expanding to Fort Lee, New Jersey. The Fort Lee studio site at 1 Congress Street was acquired from Pathé in 1916. The company distributed its films with Pathé. Rolin Studio in Los Angeles also worked with Pathé. The company's '' Hands Up'' serial included a storyline featuring the Inca. The studio produced Pathé's photoplay films including ''Stranded in Arcady''.
