Thomson Orioles
The Thomson Orioles were a minor league baseball team based in Thomson, Georgia in 1956. Thomson qualified for the playoffs and played the season as members of the Class D level Georgia State League, which permanently folded following the completion of the 1956 season. The Orioles hosted home minor league games at The Brickyard. The Thomson Orioles were a minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. History In 1920, Thomson, Georgia fielded a team in the semi–professional North Georgia League. Thomson was in 1st place in the league with a 20–5 record in standings posted on July 15, 1920. Thomson won the first half pennant in the league and played Elberton, winners of the second half pennant, in the finals. Fred Hofmann
Fred Hofmann (June 10, 1894 – November 19, 1964), nicknamed "Bootnose", was an American professional baseball player, coach, scout and manager. From 1919 to 1928, he played as a catcher in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox. Listed at , , Hofmann batted and threw right-handed. Professional baseball career Hofmann was born in St. Louis, Missouri where he began his baseball career as a grade school catcher. In the minor leagues, he not only served as a catcher, but also as a manager. He started at a professional level with the Cedar Rapids Kernels of the Central Association in 1915, then he served in the U.S. Navy during World War I from 1918 through 1919. Following his service discharge, Hofmann entered the majors in 1919 with the New York Yankees, sharing duties with Muddy Ruel and Wally Schang. Roger Marquis
Roger Julian Marquis (April 5, 1937 – July 19, 2004) was an American professional baseball player who appeared in one Major League Baseball game and registered one at bat with the Baltimore Orioles. The native of Holyoke, Massachusetts, threw and batted left-handed, stood tall and weighed . Marquis signed his first baseball contract with the Orioles on September 2, 1955, and his first professional appearance came at the Major League level 23 days later. On September 25 at Griffith Stadium against the Washington Senators, Marquis replaced fellow Massachusetts-born rookie Angelo Dagres as the Orioles' right fielder in the eighth inning. He had no chances in the field during his one inning of play, then grounded out against Washington's Bob Chakales in the top of the ninth frame.
