Adah Belle Thoms
Adah Belle Samuels Thoms (January 12, 1870 – February 21, 1943) was an African American nurse who cofounded the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses (serving as President from 1916-1923), was acting director of the Lincoln School for Nurses (New York), and fought for African Americans to serve as American Red Cross nurses during World War I and eventually as U.S. Army Nurse Corps nurses starting with the flu epidemic in December 1918. Jim Thoms
James Francis Thoms (25 May 1918 – 3 September 2005) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Thoms, a speedy rover, was good enough to represent the VFL in both 1941 and 1946. Pushed forward in 1946, his final season, Thoms kicked 50 goals and at least one in each of his 19 games for the year. This tally included bags of six against both Geelong and Hawthorn, at Western Oval. His last league appearance was in a Semi Final loss to Melbourne where he brought up the 100th goal of his career. South Australian club West Torrens secured his services for the 1945 finals series. In the 1st semifinal against North Adelaide he kicked a goal on the bell to break the deadlock and put West Torrens into the Grand Final, which they won. Trevor Thoms (30 October 1950 – 8 December 2010), known as Judge Trev Thoms and Judge Trev, was a British guitarist, best known for being a member of Inner City Unit, Atomgods, and The Steve Gibbons Band. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, he played in a blues-rock group with hints of progressive rock and heavy rock called Iron Maiden - not the famous group of the same name - along with Barry Skeels, who later played for Zior and eventually became a tour manager for acts such as Black Sabbath, Saxon, Manowar, and Yngwie Malmsteen (another member of the band was called Steve Drewett, but probably he is not the same person as the one who later founded The Newtown Neurotics). Tracie Nicole Thoms is an Emmy-nominated American television, film, and stage actress and singer. Shirley Thoms-Bystrynski (12 January 1925 – 1 July 1999), was an Australian country music singer and pioneer of Australia's country music industry. She was known as ''Australia's Yodelling Sweetheart''. Biography Thoms was born in January 1925, in Toowoomba, Queensland and was raised in a family of seven children. She began her career singing and yodelling songs by Tex Morton and Harry Torrani, and won a Bundaberg talent quest with Torrani's ''Mockingbird Yodel''. Peter Perring Thoms (1791 – December 1855) was an English printer and Chinese language translator based in Canton (Guangzhou) and Macau, China. Biography Thomas was born in Exeter, Devon, around 1791. ''Morrison's Chinese Dictionary'' Thoms arrived in Macau on 2 September 1814. He brought with him a European press, movable type, blanks and other printing requisites from London at the East India Company's expense to assist in the printing of Robert Morrison's ''A Dictionary of the Chinese Language'', which contained the largest number of Chinese characters printed to date alongside extensive English text. p. 36 For the task, Thoms employed Chinese assistants to cut partial Chinese fonts using tin alloy. Peter Thoms is an English musician and composer best known for playing keyboards and trombone for the synthpop band Landscape. Biography Landscape was formed in 1974 with Richard James Burgess (vocals, drums), Christopher Heaton (keyboards), Andy Pask (bass), Peter Thoms (trombone, keyboards), and John Walters (keyboards, woodwinds). The band built a following through live performances and touring before releasing their debut album ''Landscape'' in 1980. Paul Thoms
Paul Slade Thoms (February 19, 1932 – July 4, 2012) was a land surveyor and politician in Newfoundland. He represented Bonavista North from 1971 to 1975 in the Newfoundland House of Assembly. The son of James Ernest Thoms and Gertrude Helen Bridger, he was born in Garnish and was educated in Middle Brook. Thoms married Elsie Barrow. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1949 to 1954. Thoms was president of the Gambo Red Cross. From 1967 to 1972, he owned and operated a farm in partnership with his brother Jim. Thoms was ordained an Anglican deacon in 1991 and became a priest in 1992. Laurence Thoms (born March 26, 1980) is a Fijian alpine skier who was born in Suva. He represented Fiji at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, and attracted media attention as a competitor from a tropical nation at the Winter Olympics. Thoms was Fiji's flag-bearer during the Opening Ceremony, being his country's representative, and was the first Pacific Islander to qualify through FIS regulations for the Winter Games He competed in the Slalom and Giant Slalom events.
