Thompson Twins
Thompson Twins were a British Pop music, pop band formed in 1977 in Sheffield. Initially a New wave music, new wave group, they switched to a more mainstream pop sound and achieved considerable popularity during the mid-1980s, scoring a string of hits in the United Kingdom, the United States, and around the world. In 1993, they changed their name to Babble (band), Babble, to reflect their change in music from pop to Dub music, dub-influenced Chill-out music, chill-out. They continued as Babble until 1996, at which point the group permanently broke up. The band's name was based on the two bumbling detectives Thomson and Thompson (who are close doubles not twins) in the English language version of Hergé's comic strip ''The Adventures of Tintin''. At various stages they had up to seven members, but their best known line-up was as a trio between 1982 and 1986. It is considered the primary Norwegian record chart, charting albums and singles from countries and continents around the world. In the United States and Canada, the album was titled simply as ''Side Kicks'', and was only the second Thompson Twins album to be released there. The album was the first collaboration between the band and producer Alex Sadkin and was recorded at Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas. Arista Records () is an American record label owned by Sony Music Entertainment, a subsidiary of Sony Corporation of America, the North American division of the Japanese conglomerate Sony. ''Set'' is the second studio album by English pop band Thompson Twins. Released in February 1982, it was the second album they recorded for their own Tee Records, T Records imprint, which was released by Arista Records/Hansa. Compared to their first album, ''A Product Of... (Participation), A Product Of...'', ''Set'' featured a more polished sound, thanks to producer Steve Lillywhite. With their ever-shifting line-up, the Thompson Twins had now swelled to seven members, adding Matthew Seligman on bass guitar to free up Tom Bailey (musician, born 1956), Tom Bailey for full frontman duties and keyboards. Former sax player Jane Shorter was replaced by Alannah Currie, who was Bailey's girlfriend at the time (they later married and remained together until 2004). Three songs on the album do not feature Bailey on lead vocals, but are sung by Joe Leeway, who is also credited as writer or co-writer for five tracks. T Records
T Records was the record label imprint used solely by the Thompson Twins in the UK for their first 2 albums and corresponding singles. The band had previously released two 7" singles independently: "Squares And Triangles" (RANK1) and "She's In Love With Mystery" (LATE1). However, they are reissued on this label in 1981. After the 2nd album, T Records was absorbed into Arista Records, where the band continued releasing albums & singles. UK reissues did not use the T Records imprint, and the singles and both albums were released under Arista Records & other imprints in other markets.
