Thompson's Park
Thompson's Park, originally known as Sir David’s Field, is a park in Cardiff, Wales, located in the Canton area. It is one of the city's oldest parks, featuring areas of woodland mixed with open grassed areas and ornamental planting. The park is named after the influential family of James Pyke Thompson who owned it before it was acquired by Cardiff Council who continue to own and maintain the park. Landscape Located on a hill, there is a large mixture of trees and shrubs in the park which is bordered by flowering plants. Woodland and pond areas are habitats for wildlife. Near the pond there are a number of ornamental planted areas with wild flower bulb areas. Thompson's Park no longer has a bowling green and pavilion, but has large open grassed areas and a surfaced network of paths. Canton ( cy, Treganna) is an inner-city district and community in the west of Cardiff, capital of Wales, lying west of the city's civic centre. Canton is one of the most ethnically diverse of Cardiff's suburbs, with a significant Pakistani and Indian population. The total population of Canton increased to 14,304 at the 2011 census. It is also the most Welsh-speaking district of central Cardiff, with 19.1% of the population speaking Welsh. James Pyke Thompson
James Pyke Thompson (1846–1897) was a British corn merchant who is best known for his philanthropic work towards the people of Cardiff and Penarth in South Wales. Born into a wealthy family in Bridgwater, Somerset, Thompson joined his father as director of Spiller & Co., Cardiff, one of the largest milling companies in Britain. Thompson was an art collector and was a particular admirer of British watercolours. A4119 Road
The A4119 links Tonypandy with Cardiff in South Wales. Route City and County of Cardiff The A4119 starts outside the Wales Millennium Centre at Cardiff Bay and proceeds through Butetown, Grangetown, Riverside and Cathedral Road in Canton until meeting the A48 road (Western Avenue) at Llandaff. From here is proceeds through Llandaff passing the former BBC Wales studios. After leaving Llandaff the road takes on a more rural setting with many bends crossing the M4 Motorway near Capel Llanitern. From here the road snakes passed the settlement of Creigiau. Rhondda Cynon Taf The road enters the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf (formerly Mid-Glamorgan) at Groes-faen. Victoria Park, Cardiff
Victoria Park is a public park in the Canton, Cardiff, Canton district of Cardiff in south Wales at Cowbridge Road East. As its name suggests, it is a traditional Victorian era park named after Queen Victoria and has retained much of its original charm. The park was created as a municipal recreation ground by Cardiff City Council through a city charter between 1897 and 1898 to celebrate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee marking her record sixty years on the throne. The park occupies part of the former Llandaff Common. The park covers nearly and still contains the original model boating and paddling pool which remains a very popular attraction in summer, plus a playpark for younger children. Llandaff Fields
Llandaff Fields is a large parkland spanning parts of central and northern Cardiff, Wales. The park is owned by Cardiff Council and managed by its Parks department. The parkland is highly visible and accessed from local communities. The parkland is lined with avenues of trees and large grassed areas. The park is also used for sporting events. History Llandaff Fields were purchased for Cardiff Council from the mill-owning Thompson Family in 1898. The park is located on a historically important route between the city centre and Llandaff. In 1860, an extension of the park northwards for athletic purposes was announced, and took place in 1879, merging with Pontcanna Fields. Development of the park took place between 1899 and 1901. Cardiff Bus ( cy, Bws Caerdydd) is the dominant operator of bus services in Cardiff, Wales and the surrounding area, including Barry and Penarth. The company is wholly owned by Cardiff Council and is one of the few municipal bus companies to remain in council ownership. Boy Azooga are a Welsh indie rock group from Cardiff, Wales. Formed in 2017, the group is led by front man Davey Newington (vocals, guitar), who is joined live by band members Dafydd Davies (drums), Sam Barnes (bass), and Dylan Morgan (keyboard). History The group have been described as influenced by an eclectic spate of sources, from Run-DMC, to William Onyeabor, to the Beach Boys. The early releases were a result of work between lead singer Davey Newington and hip hop producer Ed Al-Shakarchi (Dr Ed Boogie).
