Thomas Yorke (1658–1716)
Thomas Yorke (1658–1716) of Gouthwaite Hall and Richmond, Yorkshire was an English landowner and Whig politician, who sat in the House of Commons of England and Great Britain between 1689 and 1716, with two short intervals. Yorke was born in 1658, the son of John Yorke of Gouthwaite Hall and his wife Mary Norton daughter of Maulger Norton of St Nicholas, near Richmond. His father was MP for Richmond in the North Riding of Yorkshire from 1661 to 1663. At the age of four he inherited his father's estates Stonebeck Down (including Gouthwaite Hall) and Stonebeck Up in Nidderdale and in Richmond. In 1674 his mother Mary added to his inheritance by the purchase of the manor of Bewerley in Nidderdale. In 1680 he married Katherine Lister, the heiress of estates in Lancashire. Yorke was elected Member of Parliament for the Richmond constituency in the Convention Parliament of 1689 as a Whig. Thomas Yorke (1688–1768) of Gouthwaite Hall and Halton West, Yorkshire was an English landowner and politician, who sat in the British House of Commons between 1757 and 1761. Yorke was born in 1688 at Richmond in the North Riding of Yorkshire, the son of Thomas Yorke (1658–1716) of Gouthwaite Hall and Richmond and his wife Katherine Lister. In 1729 he married Abigail (died 1741), daughter of William Andrews of Barneshall, Worcester. They lived in London and later at Helperby in Yorkshire. In 1736 he purchased an estate at Halton West in Ribblesdale, which has remained in the Yorke family to the present day. Thomas's father was MP for Richmond in the North Riding of Yorkshire between 1689 and 1716, with two short intervals, and Thomas's elder brother John succeeded their father as MP for Richmond until his death in 1757. Thomas Jones Yorke (March 25, 1801 – April 4, 1882) was a US Whig Party politician. Early life and career He was born at Hancock's Bridge, New Jersey (now part of Lower Alloways Creek Township), in Salem County, New Jersey. During the War of 1812, he served as a scout for the United States forces. He studied law, but did not practice, and engaged in mercantile pursuits at Salem. He was county collector of Salem County in 1830. Yorke served as judge of the Salem County Court of Common Pleas in 1833, 1834, and 1845–1854 and for a portion of the latter term was presiding judge. He served as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly in 1835. Thomas Edward Yorke (born 7 October 1968) is an English musician and the main vocalist and songwriter of the rock band Radiohead. A multi-instrumentalist, he mainly plays guitar and keyboards and is noted for his falsetto. He has been described by ''Rolling Stone'' as one of the most influential singers of his generation. Yorke formed Radiohead with schoolmates at Abingdon School in Oxfordshire, and studied at the University of Exeter. Thomas Henry York (25 June 1850 – 18 August 1910) was an Australian politician. Biography He was born on the Snowy River near Monaro to pastoralist Henry York and Mary Murphy. He worked as a cattle buyer and butcher before moving to Wellington in 1882 to become a stock and station agent. On 8 June 1882 he married Frances Hughes, with whom he had five children. He served as a Wellington alderman and as mayor in 1886. In 1891 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the Protectionist member for Wellington, but he was defeated in 1894.
