Thomas W. Bradshaw
Thomas Wood Bradshaw, Jr. (born 1938) is a North Carolina businessman and public official. He was a member of the city council of Raleigh, and became the youngest mayor of Raleigh, serving for one term (1971-1973). Bradshaw later served as North Carolina Secretary of Transportation during the first term of Governor Jim Hunt (1977-1981). James Baxter Hunt Jr. (born May 16, 1937) is an American politician and retired attorney who was the List of governors of North Carolina, 69th and 71st Governor of North Carolina (1977–1985, and 1993–2001). The mayor of Raleigh is the mayor of Raleigh, the state capital of North Carolina, in the United States. Clarence Everett Lightner (August 15, 1921 – July 8, 2002) was an American politician and mortician. A member of the Democratic Party, he served as Mayor of Raleigh, North Carolina from 1973 to 1975. He was the first popularly elected Mayor of Raleigh since 1947, and the first African American elected mayor of a mostly-white, major Southern city in the United States. Lightner was born in 1921 in Raleigh. He attended North Carolina Central College, where he played as a quarterback on the school football team. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army and served on a tour of duty during World War II. The North Carolina Senate is the upper chamber of the North Carolina General Assembly, which along with the North Carolina House of Representatives—the lower chamber—comprises the state legislature of North Carolina.
