Thomas Trevor, 22nd Baron Dacre
Thomas Crosbie William Trevor, 22nd Baron Dacre (5 December 1808 – 26 February 1890) was a British landowner and politician. Background Born Thomas Brand, Dacre was the eldest son of General Henry Trevor, 21st Baron Dacre, and Pyne, daughter of the Very Reverend Maurice Crosbie, Dean of Limerick. Henry Brand, 1st Viscount Hampden, Speaker of the House of Commons, was his younger brother. In 1824 he assumed by Royal licence the surname of Trevor in lieu of his patronymic. Educated at Christ Church, Oxford, he was a member of Boodle's, White's and Brooks' clubs. Political career Dacre was returned to Parliament as one of three representatives for Hertfordshire in 1847, a seat he held until 1852. The following year he succeeded his father in the barony and entered the House of Lords. Between 1865 and 1869 he served as Lord Lieutenant of Essex. Abel Smith (1788–1859)
Abel Smith (17 July 1788 – 23 February 1859) was a longtime British Member of Parliament. He was the eighth child but eldest son of Samuel Smith, also a Member of Parliament, and Elizabeth Frances (née Turnor). He was nephew of Robert Smith, 1st Baron Carrington. The family had grown wealthy through banking in Nottingham. Abel Smith entered Parliament in 1810 as member for Malmesbury, and subsequently also represented Wendover and Midhurst, both pocket boroughs controlled by his uncle Lord Carrington, sitting in the Commons for 20 of the last 22 years before the Great Reform Act. He and his father were Wendover's last MPs, as they sat together as its members for the last two years before the borough's abolition. Three years after the Reform Act, he was elected for Hertfordshire, and served another twelve years as its MP. He was High Sheriff of Hertfordshire in 1849. Baron Dacre
Baron Dacre is a title that has been created three times in the Peerage of England, every time by writ. History The first creation came in 1321 when Ralph Dacre was summoned to Parliament as Lord Dacre. He married Margaret, 2nd Baroness Multon of Gilsland, heiress of a large estate in Cumbria centred on Naworth Castle and lands in North Yorkshire around what is now Castle Howard. However, the status of the Multon barony is uncertain after Margaret's death in 1361. Lord Dacre's younger son, the third Baron, was murdered in 1375. He was succeeded by his younger brother, the fourth Baron. The latter's grandson was Thomas Dacre, the sixth Baron. The second creation was when Thomas's second son Ralph was summoned to Parliament as Lord Dacre (of Gilsland) in 1459 (see below). Sir Thomas Western, 1st Baronet
Sir Thomas Burch Western, 1st Baronet (22 August 1795 – 30 May 1873) was an English Liberal Party politician. Life He was born in Bermuda the son of Admiral Thomas Western and Mary Burch (then 18 years old). His parents married either shortly before or shortly after his birth. He spent all of his early life in Bermuda, due to his father continuing in active service in the West Indies. The family only came to England in 1802 when his father had to take HMS Tamar back to England for repair. Thereafter they remained in England. His father retired in 1809 and they retired to Tattingstone near the Suffolk coast. He served as High Sheriff of Essex for 1850. He was elected at the 1865 general election as member of parliament (MP) for the Northern division of Essex. When Essex was divided into three divisions (rather than two) for the 1868 general election, Western stood in the new Eastern division, but did not win a seat. Henry Maynard, 3rd Viscount Maynard
Henry Maynard, 3rd Viscount Maynard (13 March 1788 – 19 May 1865), was a British peer. Maynard was appointed captain of the Western Battalion of the Essex Militia on 6 March 1808. On 30 January 1809, he was appointed a deputy lieutenant of Essex and resigned his militia commission on 25 April. Maynard succeeded his uncle in the viscountcy in 1824. The following year he was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Essex, a post he held until his death. He married Mary Rabett, daughter of Reginald Rabett, of Branfield Hall, Suffolk, in 1810. She died in October 1857. Their son, Colonel the Honourable Charles Henry Maynard, died in January 1865, leaving only daughters. Lord Maynard survived his son by four months and died in May 1865, aged 77, when the viscountcy became extinct. His three-year-old granddaughter, Daisy Maynard, succeeded to most of the Maynard estates, including Easton Lodge. Edward George Earle Lytton Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton, Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council, PC (25 May 180318 January 1873) was an English writer and politician.
