Thomas Thomas (harpist)
Thomas Thomas known by his Welsh surname Aptommas (1829-1913) was a Welsh harpist and composer-arranger. He was born in Bridgend, a younger brother of the more famous John Thomas (Pencerdd Gwalia). He performed in America with Louis Moreau Gottschalk and Henriette Behrend. Even when playing the pedal harp, Thomas kept the instrument on his left shoulder, as did traditional Welsh harpists. Sir Thomas Shenton Whitelegge Thomas (10 October 1879 – 15 January 1962), commonly known as Sir Shenton Thomas, was a British colonial administrator most notable for his role as Governor of the Straits Settlements in Singapore. He served from 9 November 1934 to 15 February 1942, during which time the Second World War broke out, and again from 12 September 1945 to 31 March 1946, when the Straits Settlements was dissolved and Singapore became a crown colony. He was a prisoner-of-war (POW) during the Japanese occupation of Singapore, having decided to stay in Singapore during the war. Thomas Thomas is a former Nominated Member of Parliament in Singapore. He is currently the chief executive officer of the Association for Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Network. Prior to that, he was the executive director of the Singapore Compact for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) (now renamed as Global Compact Network Singapore), which serves as the national CSR society in Singapore, which is the country network and focal point of the United Nations Global Compact. Information Thomas served in the trade union movement as the General Secretary of the Singapore-Shell Employees’ Union, and was in the Central Committee of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) from 1987 to 2007. Thomas Thomas (1817 – 16 March 1888) was a Welsh church minister and chapel architect, also known as Thomas Glandŵr (Thomas Landore). He is described as "the first national architect of Wales" and the "unchallenged master of chapel architecture in Wales in the 1860s". Early life Thomas Thomas was born in 1817 and brought up near Ffairfach, at Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire. His father ran a carpentry business, where Thomas worked before moving to Swansea. Religious ministry Though he had no formal training he was appointed as a chapel minister in Clydach in 1848, a post which he held until 1853. Reverend Thomas subsequently became a Congregational minister at Landore, Swansea, until he resigned in 1875. It has been conjectured that he resigned after it was discovered he was the owner of sub-standard workers housing in north Swansea. Thomas Thomas (7 September 1804 – 9 January 1877) was a Welsh Anglican clergyman. He was noted for his parish ministry in Caernarfon, particularly for his educational work in building schools and helping to found the North Wales Training College. Life Thomas Thomas was born on 7 September 1804, the son of John Thomas of Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn. After being educated at Ystrad Meurig, he studied at the University of Oxford, matriculating as a member of Jesus College on 29 March 1824 and obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1827. He then spent a year teaching in Liverpool before being ordained deacon by John Luxmoore, Bishop of St Asaph, on 20 July 1828. He spent three years as a curate in Llanfair Caereinion, during which time he was ordained priest (on 26 July 1829). He then served as the curate of Ruabon.
