Thomas Sotherton
Thomas Sotherton (by 1525 – 1583), of Norwich, Norfolk, was an English politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Norwich in 1558 and 1559 and mayor of the city in 1565-66. He was the eldest son of Nicholas Sotherton (d.1540) of Norwich by Agnes Wright. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Augustine Steward of Norwich. They had four sons and four daughters. Norwich (UK Parliament Constituency)
Norwich was a borough constituency in Norfolk which was represented in the House of Commons of England from 1298 to 1707, in the House of Commons of Great Britain from 1707 to 1800, and in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom from 1801 until it was abolished for the 1950 United Kingdom general election, 1950 general election. Consisting of the city of Norwich in Norfolk, it returned two members of parliament (MPs), elected by the Plurality-at-large voting, bloc vote system. Nicholas Sotherton
Nicholas Sotherton (died 1540), of Norwich, Norfolk, was an English merchant and politician. He was a grocer, alderman and Mayor of Norwich 1539–40. Augustine Steward
Augustine Steward (1491 – 1571), of Norwich, Norfolk, was an English politician. Family Augustine Steward was born and baptised in the parish of St. George’s Tombland, Norwich, the son of Jeffrey Steward (d.1504), an Alderman of Norwich and his wife Cecily, daughter of Augustine Boys, an armiger. This family can be traced back to the Stewards (Stewarts) of Scotland. Augustine married twice: (1) before 1548, Alice, daughter of Henry Repps, Esq., of Heveningham, by who he had three daughters. He married (2) Elizabeth, daughter of William Rede, Esq., of Beccles Manor, Suffolk (he died 1552), by whom he had six daughters and two sons, all of whom appear to have married well. Career Steward was a mercer and an armiger. He was admitted a Freeman of the City of Norwich on 12 March, 1516 and after serving for some years on the common council was elected an alderman in 1526, a position he was to retain until his death. Hellesdon
Hellesdon is a village and suburb of Norwich in the District of Broadland in Norfolk, England. It lies approximately north-west of Norwich city centre and has a population of 11,132, according to the 2011 Census. Norwich International Airport is located In the parish. History Hellesdon has signs of very early settlement. A variety of flint instruments have been unearthed in and around Hellesdon, thought to date back at least 4,000 years. A collection of bronze axe heads were found near Hellesdon Hall, and a skeleton dating from around 600 AD was discovered next to Hellesdon Lodge in Low Road. The ''Dictionary of British Place-names'' indicates that the name Hellesdon comes from Hægelisdun (the spelling of the location c.985), meaning 'hill of a man named Hægel', with the spelling having changed to Hailesduna by 1086. Hoveton
Hoveton is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It is located within the Norfolk Broads, and immediately across the River Bure from the village of Wroxham. Whilst Hoveton is north of the river, Wroxham is south; but many people refer to the whole settlement as "Wroxham". The villages name origin is uncertain 'Hofa's farm/settlement' or perhaps, 'ale-hoof farm/settlement'. Ale-hoof is probably ground-ivy (glechoma hederacea) Administration The civil parish has an area of 10.2 km2 and in the 2001 census had a population of 1,804 in 873 households, the population decreasing to 1759 at the 2011 Census.
