Thomas S. Kenan
Thomas Stephen Kenan (February 26, 1771 – October 22, 1843) was the son of Revolutionary War General James Kenan, a plantation owner and builder of the first "Liberty Hall". He was a U.S. Congressman from North Carolina between 1805 and 1811. Born in Kenansville, North Carolina, Kenan was educated by private tutors at home. He married Mary Rand Kenan on January 3, 1800, and soon after the second Liberty Hall was built located in Kenansville after his father's home had been lost to fire., bicententennial edition, sect III, p 1. Kenan was a member of the North Carolina House of Commons representing Duplin County from 1798 to 1799. Between 1799 and 1803 he served in the North Carolina Senate in 1804. Kenan (also spelled Qenan, Kaynan or Cainan) (; ar, كِنَاْنْ, Keynān; grc-x-biblical, Καϊνάμ, Kaïnám) is an Antediluvian patriarch first mentioned in the Book of Genesis in the Hebrew Bible. In scriptures According to Genesis 5:9–14, Kenan was a son of Enos (biblical figure), Enosh and a grandson of Seth. Born when Enosh was 90 years old, Kenan fathered Mahalalel when he was 70 years old. Other sons and daughters were born to Kenan before he died at 910 years of age (when Noah was aged 179 as per the Masoretic chronology). James Gillespie (politician)
James Gillespie (c. 1747 – January 11, 1805) was a Democratic-Republican U.S. Congressman from North Carolina between 1793 and 1799. There is some uncertainty about Gillespie's birthplace. The ''Dictionary of North Carolina Biography'' and some family sources state that he was born in County Monaghan, Ireland. The ''Biographical Dictionary of the United States Congress'' gives his birthplace as Kenansville, North Carolina. Gillespie pursued classical studies and served as a captain in the 1st Battalion of Volunteers and the Duplin County Regiment of the North Carolina militia during the American Revolutionary War.
