Thomas Rose (RAF Officer)
Thomas Rose (27 January 1895 – 20 June 1968) was a British flying ace in World War I, credited with 11 victories. Better known as "Tommy" Rose, he also won the King's Cup Air Race in 1935 and from 1939 to 1945 was Chief Test Pilot with Phillips & Powis Aircraft Ltd. – renamed Miles Aircraft Ltd. in 1943. World War I Rose joined the Royal Flying Corps in 1917 and was posted to No. 64 Squadron later that year, flying DH.5s. The squadron was involved in the Battle of Cambrai in a ground-strafing role. It subsequently re-equipped with SE5as, which led to greater involvement in aerial combat. He was awarded the DFC in November 1918, having become a deputy flight commander. Later military service Following the end of the war, Rose became a flight commander with No. 43 Squadron, RAF, serving from 1925 to 1927. Thomas Rose (died 1837)
Thomas Rose (died 3 March 1837) was an early pioneer in the settlement of the British colony in New South Wales, Australia. After being transported from Britain for housebreaking, he established himself as first a baker, and then later a publican in Sydney. His grant and purchase of land in the Campbelltown area saw some of the earliest water conservation for agriculture in the colony, and the construction of one of the country's first windmills. There was more than one Thomas Rose who played a pioneering role in the New South Wales colony. For the purposes of distinguishing them, this one is often known as Thomas Rose of Mount Gilead. Early life Rose was transported as a convict to New South Wales for breaking and entering. A fact he denied, to perpetuate a myth that he migrated as a free settler. Thomas Rose (politician)
Thomas Rose (1856 – 10 June 1926) was an Australian politician. He was born in Parramatta to pastoralist Charles Henry Jacob Rose and Rosanna Robinetta Nicholls. He attended public schools in Parramatta and Campbelltown before working as a draper in Parramatta and Bathurst. He also ran general stores in Molong and Murrumburrah. A lawyer, he was called to the bar in 1898, although he was disbarred at his own request in 1904 and worked as a solicitor, becoming a partner in the firm Rose and Dawes. His first marriage was to Valerie Kable, but in 1894 he remarried Elizabeth Ann Barber. He was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1891 as the Protectionist Protectionism, sometimes referred to as trade protectionism, is the economic policy of restricting imports from other countries through methods such as tariffs on imported goods, import quotas, and a variety of other government regulations. ... member for Argyle, serving until his defeat in 1904.
