Thomas Raymond Hyland
Thomas Raymond Hyland was an Irish Dominican priest who served as Coadjutor Bishop for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Antilles ( and Titular Bishop of Evaria). Hyland was born in Dublin, on November 3, 1837, in February 1856 he entered St. Mary's Priory, Tallaght, to become a Dominican. In 1864 he was ordained, a priest of the Order of Friars Preachers(Dominicans), completing his studies in Rome where he obtained a degree in theology. He served as prior to the Dominican house and Holy Cross Church in Tralee, Co. Kerry, when he was appointed Bishop.'Church and Society in Trinidad 1864-1900, Part 3' By Rev. John T. Roman Catholic Archdiocese Of Port Of Spain
The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Port of Spain ( la, Archidioecesis Portus Hispaniae) is a metropolitan diocese of the Latin Church of the Roman Catholic Church in the Caribbean. The archdiocese encompasses the entirety of the former Spanish dependency of Trinidad, including the islands of Trinidad and Tobago. The archdiocese is the Metropolitan responsible for the suffragan Dioceses of Bridgetown, Georgetown, Paramaribo and Willemstad, and is a member of the Antilles Episcopal Conference. The diocese of Port of Spain was originally erected as a vicariate apostolic in 1818 and elevated to an archdiocese in April 1830. Communications The archdiocese has its own special-purpose company, Catholic Media Services Limited (CAMSEL), responsible for coordinating communications. The Priory Institute
The Priory Institute, is part of the St. Mary's Dominican Priory on the grounds of the old Tallaght Castle, Dublin 24, Ireland and provides, certificate, diploma, and degree programmes in theology and philosophy. The Dominican Order (''Order of Preachers'') has been present in Ireland since 1224 when the first foundation was established in Dublin, a monastic settlement north of the River Liffey, where the Four Courts is located today. This was quickly followed by Drogheda (also 1224), Kilkenny (1225), Waterford (1226), Limerick (1227) and Cork (city) (1229). The order was reestablished in the 19th century after having been driven out in the 17th century by laws against Catholic religious orders.
