Thomas "Ta" Power
Thomas Power was an Irish republican socialist, also known as Ta Power, who was a leading member of the Irish Republican Socialist Party (IRSP) and Irish National Liberation Army (INLA). According to the Irish Republican Socialist Movement (IRSM) biography page on Power, he was from Friendly Street in the Markets area of south Belfast, where he had become an activist. He had originally joined the Official IRA but transferred allegiance to the INLA in 1975 while a prisoner in Long Kesh, along with 20 other men. Power was arrested on the word of the supergrass Harry Kirkpatrick. Power spent the longest period on remand—nearly four and a half years—of any republican prisoner. During this time he developed his political analysis of the IRSP/INLA situation, which he believed needed "fresh blood". Thomas Joseph Power
Bishop Thomas Joseph Power BA (Lon) MA (Lon) (1830–1893) was an Irish Roman Catholic Bishop. He was born near New Ross, County Wexford, Ireland, on 10 December 1830 to Martin Power, a publican, and Catherine Sutton. He attended St. Patrick's Tullow, County Carlow, and then Carlow College (1843-1853). At the time Carlow students could sit exams for degrees from the University of London and he was awarded a BA in 1850. He went on to study for a MA. He completed his studies in the Irish College in Rome (1853-1855) and was ordained a priest there by Archbishop Paul Cullen, and returned to Dublin to serve. From 1859 to 1870 he served as President of Clonliffe College. Thomas Power (Newfoundland Politician)
Thomas Joseph Power (December 12, 1886 – 1959) was a merchant and politician in Newfoundland. He represented St. George's in the Newfoundland House of Assembly from 1924 to 1928. The son of Michael Power and Margaret Kelly, he was born in St. John's and was educated there. Power worked as a cooper in the family cooperage and then, in 1914, set up a herring packing business and barrel factory at Woods Island, Bay of Islands. He was elected to the Newfoundland assembly in 1924 as a Liberal-Conservative. Thomas Herbert Power (29 July 1802 – 28 November 1873) was an auctioneer, pastoral agent and politician in colonial Victoria (Australia), a member of the Victorian Legislative Council. Power was born in Carrick-on-Suir in County Tipperary, Ireland. His parents were David Power, a merchant, and Bridget, ''née'' Higgins. Power emigrated to the Port Phillip District in 1839 via Launceston, Tasmania. He was an auctioneer in Melbourne from 1839 to 1843 and again in 1846; he was also a squatter in Boroondara in the early 1840s. Power was elected to the Southern Province of the new Legislative Council in November 1856, a seat he held until 1 September 1864. Power was a director of the National Bank of Australasia in 1860–1866 and a commissioner of the Savings Bank of Victoria. Thomas Francis Power (1869 – February 25, 1898) was an American professional baseball player who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for one season. In 1890, he played primarily as a first baseman, but also played as a second baseman, for the Baltimore Orioles of the American Association. Career Thomas Francis Power was born in 1869 in San Francisco, California. He began his professional baseball career in 1888, with his hometown San Francisco Haverlys of the California League (CL) at the age of 19. In the following season, he split time between San Francisco and the Stocking team of the CL. He began the 1890 baseball season with the Baltimore Orioles of the Atlantic Association, before making his MLB debut on August 27 with the Baltimore Orioles of the American Association and stayed with the team through the conclusion of the season. Tom Power (born May 1, 1987) is a Canadian musician and broadcaster, best known as the host of '' Q'' on CBC Radio One, previously the host of '' Deep Roots'' and '' Radio 2 Morning'' on CBC Radio 2. In August 2016, he was named as the permanent new host of ''Q'', succeeding Shad. Based in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Power began hosting ''Deep Roots'' in 2008 while he was a student of folklore at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Just 21 years old at the time, he was the youngest host of a national program on CBC Radio since Peter Jennings. After Bob Mackowycz's departure as host of ''Radio 2 Morning'' in July 2011, Power spent several weeks as the show's interim host before being named the permanent new host in November.
