Thomas Lindsay (academic)
Thomas Kevin Lindsay is an American academic who briefly served as President of Shimer College. He was the Deputy Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities until December 2008. He was also the Director of the NEH We the People initiative, which funds programs, research and other activities that explore significant events and themes in US history and culture, and advance knowledge of the principles that define America. He serves as the Director of the Center for Higher Education at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, a conservative think tank. Early academic career Lindsay received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Chicago. His research has focused largely on the relation of democracy and education. Thomas Lindsay (bishop)
Thomas Lindsay (or Lindesay, Lyndesay), D.D., B.D., M.A (1656–1724) was an Anglican clergyman who served in the Church of Ireland as the Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, Bishop of Killaloe, Bishop of Raphoe and finally Archbishop of Armagh. Biography The son of a Scottish Minister, he was born in 1656 in Blandford in Dorset, England. He became a Fellow of Wadham College, Oxford, graduating with a Master of Arts in 1678, a Bachelor of Divinity and Doctor of Divinity in 1693. In 1686 he was appointed rector of St Mary Magdalene Woolwich in Kent (now London). He came to Ireland as chaplain to Henry Capell, 1st Baron Capell of Tewkesbury, the Lord Deputy of Ireland. Soon afterwards he was appointed Dean of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin, by letters patent on 6 February 1694, and installed in the cathedral the next day. Thomas Martin Lindsay
Thomas Martin Lindsay FRSE (1843–1914) was a Scottish historian, professor and principal of the Free Church College, Glasgow. He wrote chiefly on church history, his major works including ''Luther and the German Reformation'' (1900), and ''A History of the Reformation'' (1906–1907). Life He was born on 18 October 1843 in Lesmahagow in Lanarkshire, the eldest son of Rev. Alexander Lindsay, and his wife, Susan Irvine Martin. He was educated in Lesmahagow. Lindsay studied divinity at the University of Glasgow and then at the University of Edinburgh. In 1869 he entered the ministry of the Free Church of Scotland, and in 1872 was appointed Professor of Church History at the Free Church College, Glasgow. He was then living at "Thornliebank" on Ann Street in the Hillhead district when he married Anna Dunlop. Anna Lindsay had just been a student in Edinburgh. Thomas Enraght Lindsay was Archdeacon of Cleveland from 1907 until 1938. The son of The Rev. Thomas Lindsay, he was educated at Manchester Grammar School and Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. He was ordained in 1886 and became Chaplain of Epsom College. He then served a curacy in Doncaster he held incumbencies at Loversal (1891–1892); Middlesbrough (1893–1905); Scarborough (1905–1913); Saltburn-by-the-Sea (1913–1925); and Stokesley (1925–1936). Tom Lindsay (rugby Union)
Tom Lindsay (born 18 November 1987) is an English former professional rugby union player who recently played for Bristol Bears in Premiership Rugby. A former member of the Saracens Academy, Lindsay made his senior debut for Wasps in 2008 and his first senior start came in the 2009–10 Amlin Challenge Cup pool game against Racing Metro. The young hooker produced some excellent form towards the end of that season which earned him selection for England Saxons in the 2010 Churchill Cup. After 11-year association with Wasps, on 13 March 2015, Lindsay has signed for Gloucester Rugby from the 2015-16 season. On 16 February 2017, Lindsay left Gloucester by mutual consent to join old club Saracens on a short-term deal as injury cover.
