Thomas Lee House
The Thomas Lee House is a historic house at the junction of Giant's Neck Road and Connecticut Route 156 in the Niantic section of East Lyme, Connecticut. Built about 1660, it is one of the oldest wood-frame houses in Connecticut. Restored in the early 20th century by Norman Isham, it is now maintained by the East Lyme Historical Society as a museum. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1970. Description and history The Thomas Lee House is located in southwestern East Lyme, on the south side of CT 156 just east of Rocky Neck State Park. It is a -story structure, with a post-and-beam timber frame erected on six 2-story wall posts, and covered by a steeply pitched roof with a large brick central chimney. Its exterior clapboards appear to be original. The main facade is five bays wide, with a regular arrangement that is offset to the right. Connecticut Route 156
Route 156 is a Connecticut state highway running from East Haddam to Waterford. Route description Route 156 begins at an intersection with Route 82 in southeastern East Haddam and heads southeast into Lyme. It continues south through Lyme into Old Lyme. In Old Lyme, it continues south, intersecting I-95 and US 1. It then continues south and southeast along the Connecticut River, turning east at Long Island Sound and proceeding along the shore before turning northeast through the South Lyme section of Old Lyme and crossing into East Lyme. It continues east through southern East Lyme past Niantic Bay before crossing the Niantic River into Waterford. In Waterford, it continues east and northeast to end at an intersection with US 1. It is a traditional New England style of home, originally timber framed, which takes its name from its resemblance to a wooden lidded box in which salt was once kept. East Lyme, Connecticut
East Lyme is a town in New London County, Connecticut, United States. The population was 18,693 at the 2020 census. The villages of Niantic and Flanders are located in the town. Geography East Lyme is located in southern New London County, west of Waterford and Montville, east of Lyme and Old Lyme, and south of Salem. Long Island Sound is to the south. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , of which is land and , or 19%, is water. Villages The town consists primarily of two villages, Flanders and Niantic. It is common for the town of East Lyme to be erroneously called "Niantic", due to this side of town being the "beach" side which is popular with tourists and visitors in the summer months.
