Canoe slalom (previously known as whitewater slalom) is a competitive sport with the aim to navigate a decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging downstream or upstream gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of the two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the Summer Olympics, and is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe/Kayak Slalom. The 2020 Canoe Slalom World Cup was a series of multiple races in several canoeing and kayaking categories organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 33rd edition. Only 2 out of the 5 rounds were held due to the COVID-19 pandemic and no overall winners were declared by the ICF. Pau-Pyrénées Whitewater Stadium (french: Stade d'eaux-vives Pau-Pyrénées) is the home training facility for the French national canoe slalom team. It was first used to train the French team for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. It 2009, it was the first of three venues used in the canoe slalom World Cup. The Ivrea Whitewater Stadium ( it, Stadio della Canoa di Ivrea) is an artificial whitewater sporting facility located in Ivrea, Italy. History The practice of canoeing in Ivrea began in the 1950s. The subsequent founding and growing importance of the local Ivrea Canoe Club led to a long series of efforts aimed at modifying the configuration of a part of the Dora Baltea riverbed near the city center to make it more suitable for the sport, ultimately resulting in the creation of the current whitewater facility. The latest and most relevant work campaigns include the works carried out in 2005 by Ondrej Cibák, which redesigned the slope of the last part of the canal to better distribute the significant drop of the facility. The 2016 Canoe Slalom World Cup was a series of five races in 5 canoeing and kayaking categories organized by the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 29th edition. Calendar The series opened with World Cup Race 1 in Ivrea, Italy (June 3–5) and concluded with the World Cup Final in Tacen, Slovenia (September 9–11). Standings The winner of each race was awarded 60 points (double points were awarded for the World Cup Final for all the competitors who reached at least the semifinal stage). Points for lower places differed from one category to another. Every participant was guaranteed at least 2 points for participation and 5 points for qualifying for the semifinal run (10 points in the World Cup Final). Canoeing At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Men's Slalom C-1
The men's C-1 slalom canoeing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 25 and 26 July 2021 at the Kasai Canoe Slalom Course. 18 canoeists from 18 nations competed. Background This was the 9th appearance of the event, having previously appeared in every Summer Olympics with slalom canoeing: 1972 and 1992–2016.
