Thomas Jung (conductor)
Thomas Jung (born 1984) is a German conductor. Biography Thomas Jung studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Cologne and at King's College Cambridge. He was appointed as the inaugural Constant Lambert Conducting Fellow at the Royal Opera House London in 2018 and is conducting for The Royal Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet. In October 2020 Thomas Jung conducted the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra for their season opening. Among others, he has been working with Bamberger Symphoniker, Dresden Philharmonic, SWR Symphony Orchestra, Het Gelders Orkest, Orkest van het Oosten and Orchestra di Padua e del Veneto. He was an Assistant and Cover Conductor for Bernard Haitink, was the Zander Fellow and Assistant Conductor of the Boston Philharmonic and Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and has been working as an Assistant at the WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne and Gürzenich Orchestra. Samson Young
Samson Young (born 1979) is a Hong Kong artist, working primarily in the mediums of sound performance and installations. Early life and education Samson Young was born in Hong-Kong. He received both his BA degree in Music, Philosophy and Gender Studies and his M.Phil in Music Composition from The University of Hong Kong, and his PhD in music composition from Princeton University. He was an assistant professor in sonic art and physical computing at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong. Young is also the principal investigator at the Laboratory for Ubiquitous Musical Expression (L.U.M.E), and artistic director of the experimental sound advocacy organization Contemporary Musiking. Eugen Jochum
Eugen Jochum (; 1 November 1902 – 26 March 1987) was a German conductor, best known for his interpretations of the music of Anton Bruckner, Carl Orff, and Johannes Brahms, among others. Biography Jochum was born to a Roman Catholic family in Babenhausen, near Augsburg, Germany; his father was an organist and conductor. Jochum studied the piano and organ in Augsburg, enrolling in its Academy of Music from 1914 to 1922. He then studied at the Munich Conservatory, with his composition teacher being Hermann von Waltershausen; it was there that he changed his focus to conducting, his teacher being Siegmund von Hausegger, who conducted the first performance of the original version of the Ninth Symphony of Anton Bruckner and made the first recording of it. Jochum's first post was as a rehearsal pianist at Mönchen-Gladbach, and then in Kiel. The Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition is one of the most important music competitions of its kind worldwide and is held in Bamberg, Germany. Conductors no older than 35 years may enter. The Prix Ars Electronica is one of the best known and longest running yearly prizes in the field of electronic and interactive art, computer animation, digital culture and music. It has been awarded since 1987 by Ars Electronica (Linz, Austria). In 2005, the Golden Nica, the highest prize, was awarded in six categories: "Computer Animation/Visual Effects," "Digital Musics," "Interactive Art," "Net Vision," "Digital Communities" and the "u19" award for "freestyle computing." Each Golden Nica came with a prize of €10,000, apart from the u19 category, where the prize was €5,000. In each category, there are also Awards of Distinction and Honorary Mentions. The Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne (german: Gürzenich-Orchester Köln) is a German symphony orchestra based in Cologne. On some recordings, the orchestra goes under the name "Gürzenich-Orchester Kölner Philharmoniker". Its name comes from its past principal concert venue, the Gürzenich concert hall in Cologne. Currently, its primary concert venue is the Kölner Philharmonie.
