Thomas Hurter
Thomas August Hurter (born 1 November 1963) is a Swiss politician and former commercial pilot. He currently serves as member of the National Council (Switzerland) for the Swiss People's Party since 2007. He also served on the Cantonal Council of Schaffhausen from 2005 to 2016. Since September 2016 he serves as president of ACS. Hurter was previously a pilot for the Swiss Air Force and Swissair Swissair AG/ S.A. (German: Schweizerische Luftverkehr-AG; French: S.A. Suisse pour la Navigation Aérienne) was the national airline of Switzerland between its founding in 1931 and bankruptcy in 2002. The National Council (german: Nationalrat; french: Conseil national; it, Consiglio nazionale; rm, Cussegl naziunal) is the lower house of the Federal Assembly of Switzerland, the upper house being the Council of States. With 200 seats, the National Council is the larger of the two houses. Adult citizens elect the council's members, who are called National Councillors, for four year terms. The Swiss People's Party (german: Schweizerische Volkspartei, SVP; rm, Partida populara Svizra, PPS), also known as the Democratic Union of the Centre (french: Union démocratique du centre, UDC; it, Unione Democratica di Centro, UDC), is a national-conservative, right-wing populist political party in Switzerland.
