Thomas Howard, 1st Viscount Howard Of Bindon
Thomas Howard, 1st Viscount Howard of Bindon (c. 1520 – 1582), was an English peer and politician. He was the youngest son of Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk and Lady Elizabeth Stafford. He served as Custos Rotulorum of Dorset and Vice-Admiral of Dorset. In 1559, he was raised to the peerage as Viscount Howard of Bindon by Queen Elizabeth I of England, taking the title from Bindon Abbey in Dorset, many of whose former lands he held. Thomas had eight children by three wives. Edward Seymour, 1st Earl Of Hertford
Edward Seymour, 1st Earl of Hertford, 1st Baron Beauchamp, KG (22 May 1539 – 6 April 1621), of Wulfhall and Totnam Lodge in Great Bedwyn, Wiltshire, of Hatch Beauchamp in Somerset, of Netley Abbey, Hampshire, and of Hertford House, Cannon Row in Westminster, is most noted for incurring the displeasure of Queen Elizabeth I by taking part in more than one clandestine marriage. Early life Seymour was the eldest son of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset (c.1500 – 1552) by his second wife Anne Stanhope (c.1497 – 1587), and was a nephew of Jane Seymour, a wife of Henry VIII. Although his father had sons by his first marriage to Catherine Fillol, these were postponed by special remainder to the succession of his dukedom behind the sons of his second marriage, due to her suspected adultery. Howard Family (English Aristocracy)
The House of Howard is an English noble house founded by John Howard, who was created Duke of Norfolk (third creation) by King Richard III of England in 1483. However, John was also the eldest grandson (although maternal) of the 1st Duke of the first creation. The Howards have been part of the peerage since the 15th century and remain both the Premier Dukes and Earls of the Realm in the Peerage of England, acting as Earl Marshal of England. Matthew Arundell
Sir Matthew Arundell of Wardour Castle in Wiltshire (c. 1532-34 – 24 December 1598), known between 1552 and 1554 as Matthew Howard and after his death sometimes called Matthew Arundell-Howard, was an English gentleman, landowner, and member of parliament in the West of England. Although the ancestor of a family of Roman Catholic recusants, Arundell himself conformed to the Church of England. Thomas Arundell Of Lanherne
Sir Thomas Arundell of Wardour Castle in Wiltshire (c. 150226 February 1552) was a Cornish administrator and alleged conspirator. Arundell was connected by birth and marriage to the crown and to several of the most important families in England, and by the time of the death of King Henry VIII was one of the most experienced government officers in England. Those in power had concerns about his influence and his family's devotion to the old religion. Vague and unproven allegations of complicity in the southwestern rebellion in 1549 were made against him. In late 1551 he temporarily aligned himself with the Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, Protector Somerset, thereby putting himself in conflict with John Dudley, 1st Duke of Northumberland, John Dudley, Earl of Warwick. He was arrested and charged with conspiring to overthrow the government and murder the Earl. He was convicted, and beheaded on Tower Hill on 26 February 1552. Henry Ashley (February 19, 1778 – January 14, 1829) was an American politician and a U.S. Representative from New York from 1825 to 1827. Biography Ashley was born the son of David Ashley in Winchester, Cheshire County, New Hampshire. He attended the common schools on December 14, 1817, at Catskill, Greene County, New York. Henry's estate was proved on January 29, 1829, at Catskill, Greene County, New York. They had five children, Henry, George, Clarence, Charles (April 26, 1826 – November 27, 1826), and Charles (born December 19, 1827). The Vice-Admiral of Dorset was responsible for the defence of the County of Dorset, England. As a Vice-Admiral, the post holder was the chief of naval administration for his district. His responsibilities included pressing men for naval service, deciding the lawfulness of prizes (captured by privateers), dealing with salvage claims for wrecks and acting as a judge. History In 1863 the Registrar of the Admiralty Court stated that the offices had 'for many years been purely honorary' (HCA 50/24 pp. 235–6).
