Thomas Henry (apothecary)
Thomas Henry (26 October 1734 – 18 June 1816) was a surgeon and apothecary. He was a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, and also the father of William Henry, the chemist who formulated Henry's Law. Background Henry was born in Wrexham, Wales training as a surgeon-apothecary in that town. He later moved to Manchester in England. Career He invented a process for preparing magnesia alba in 1771 and became known as "Magnesia" Henry. He was a founder and afterwards president of the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society. In 1776, Thomas Henry speculated tongue in cheek that Joseph Priestley’s newly discovered dephlogisticated air (now called oxygen) might become “as fashionable as French wine at the fashionable taverns”. He did not expect, however, that tavern goers would “relish calling for a bottle of Air, instead of Claret”. Thomas Henry (patron Of The Arts)
Bon-Thomas Henry (1766 in Cherbourg, France – 1836 in Cherbourg) was a French painter and patron of the arts. After studies in his hometown, Henry was forced while traveling to take shelter during a storm at Bordeaux, where he settled and became a partner with a merchant who sent him to Saint-Domingue. He returned to France after the Haitian Revolution, and learned the restoration of paintings from fellow artists. He was a pupil of Jean-Baptiste Regnault. He augmented his skill in restoration with expertise learned during travels to Italy, Belgium, and England. This led to his gaining a position as an expert commissioner with the Royal Museums. The position facilated his amassing a significant personal collection of art. When he felt death approaching he decided to "ignite the flame of art" in his native town by donating his collection and establishing a museum. Thomas Henry (1779July 20, 1849) was an Anti-Masonic and Whig member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. Biography Henry was born in County Down in the Kingdom of Ireland. Immigrated to America and settled in Beaver, Pennsylvania, in 1798. He was appointed justice of the peace by Governor Simon Snyder on December 24, 1808. He was elected county commissioner in 1810. He served as captain of a company that went from Beaver to help defend the northern frontier from a threatened British invasion in 1814. He was elected a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1815. He served as prothonotary and clerk of courts from 1816 to 1821, and was elected sheriff of the county in 1821. Sir Thomas Henry (1807 – 1876) was an Anglo-Irish police magistrate. Life Thomas was born in Dublin in 1807. He was the eldest son of David Henry of St. Stephen's Green, Dublin and head of the government contractor firm Henry, Mullins, & MacMahon. He was educated at Von Feinagle's school in that city and later studied at Trinity College, where he graduated B.A. 1824 and M.A. 1827. On 23 January 1829, he was called to the bar at the Middle Temple, went the northern circuit, and attended the West Riding of Yorkshire sessions. He was magistrate at the Lambeth Street police-court, Whitechapel, from April 1840 until 1846. In 1846, he was transferred to Bow Street, became chief magistrate there 6 July 1864, and was knighted on 30 Nov. He discharged his duties with general approval. Thomas Henry (born Thomas Henry Fisher) (1879–1962) was an England, English illustrator, best remembered for his illustrations of Richmal Crompton's Just William, William books. Biography Thomas Henry Fisher was born in 1879 at Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. The oldest of three brothers, he became an apprentice to T. Bailey Forman (Nottingham newspaper proprietors and printers) at the young age of fourteen. Numerous paintings and sketches he made outside contract were used by his employers for publishing merchandise like wall calendars. He concurrently attended the Nottingham Trent University, School of Art and Design, Nottingham School of Art. Club career Early career Henry began his career at Beauvais and Fréjus Saint-Raphaël before joining Nantes in 2015. Thomas Monroe Henry (February 4, 1857 - June 28, 1930) was the state auditor of Mississippi from 1904 to 1908, as well as the insurance commissioner of Mississippi from 1908 until 1928. Early life Thomas Monroe Henry was born on February 4, 1857, in Hillsboro, Scott County, Mississippi. He was the second son of Patrick Henry, a Confederate lieutenant during the Civil War, and Mary Anne (Chambers) Henry. Thomas attended the public schools of Scott County. He left school when he was fourteen and started working. He was a clerk and a bookkeeper at Forest and Morton until 1878, and was a bookkeeper and merchant in Brookhaven from 1878 to 1883.
