Thomas Grosvenor (1734–1795)
Thomas Grosvenor (March 1734 – 12 February 1795) was a British politician who sat in the House of Commons for 40 years from 1755 to 1795. Background Grosvenor was the second son of Sir Robert Grosvenor, 6th Baronet, and Jane, daughter and heiress of Thomas Warre of Swell Court, Somerset. Richard Grosvenor, 1st Earl Grosvenor, was his elder brother. Political career Grosvenor sat as Member of Parliament for Chester from 1755 to 1795. In 1784 he was the leader of the St. Alban's Tavern group who tried to bring Fox and Pitt together. Family Grosvenor died in February 1795, aged 60. Grosvenor had married Deborah, daughter of Stephen Skynner, in 1758. They lived at Swell Court in Somerset and had four sons and two daughters. Their eldest surviving son Richard Erle-Drax-Grosvenor was a Member of Parliament while their third son Thomas Grosvenor was a distinguished military commander. Grosvenor Family
Duke of Westminster is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created by Queen Victoria in 1874 and bestowed upon Hugh Grosvenor, 3rd Marquess of Westminster. It is the most recent dukedom conferred on someone not related to the British royal family. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Dukes were each grandsons of the first. The present holder of the title is Hugh Grosvenor, the 7th Duke, who inherited the dukedom on 9 August 2016 on the death of his father, Gerald. The present duke is a godfather of Prince George of Wales. The Duke of Westminster's seats are at Eaton Hall, Cheshire, and at Abbeystead House, Lancashire. The family's London town house was Grosvenor House, Park Lane, while Halkyn Castle was built as a sporting lodge for the family in the early 1800s. Richard Grosvenor, 1st Earl Grosvenor
Richard Grosvenor, 1st Earl Grosvenor ( ; 18 June 1731 – 5 August 1802) was an English landowner, Tory politician and peer who sat in the British House of Commons representing the parliamentary constituency of the City of Chester from 1754 to 1761. Early life Richard Grosvenor was born at Eaton Hall, Cheshire, the elder son of Sir Robert Grosvenor, 6th Baronet and Jane Warre. He was educated at Oriel College, Oxford, graduating MA in 1751 and DCL in 1754. Political career He became Member of Parliament for Chester in 1754 and continued to represent the city until 1761, when he became Baron Grosvenor and was elevated to the House of Lords. He was mayor of Chester in 1759 and in 1769 he paid for the building of the Eastgate in the city. Grosvenor extended his estate by the purchase of the village of Belgrave, and the manor of Eccleston in 1769. He succeeded as 7th baronet on the death of his father in 1755.Farrell, S. M.
