Thomas Gardiner (Royalist)
Thomas Gardiner (1591–1652) was an English lawyer and politician who sat in the House of Commons in 1640. He supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War. Gardiner was called to the bar ar Inner Temple in 1618. He became Recorder of London in 1636 and a bencher of his Inn. In 1639 he became treasurer of his Inn. In April 1640, Gardiner was elected Member of Parliament for Callington in the Short Parliament. He was an unsuccessful Royalist candidate for the city of London. In 1642 he was leading counsel to Sir Edward Herbert, when he was impeached. Gardiner was himself impeached soon after for his support of ship-money. He was solicitor-general to the king at Oxford in 1643. He was a Royalist commissioner at the Treaty of Uxbridge and Royalist attorney-general in 1645. He was pardoned by parliament in 1647 on payment of fine. Thomas Gardiner (monk)
Thomas Gardiner (fl. 1507-1542), was a monk of Westminster Abbey who wrote a chronicle of English history from Brutus of Britain to the seventh year of Henry VIII, entitled ''The Flowers of England''. The only manuscript, which is among the Cotton MSS. (Otho C. vi.), was badly damaged by fire. He also wrote a genealogical roll of Tudor ancestry. Life Gardiner may be identical to the Thomas Gardiner who was the son of Helen Tudor, illegitimate daughter of Jasper Tudor. She married a London businessman named William Gardiner. Thomas Gardiner (MP)
Thomas Gardiner ( – 1585/) was an English academic and politician. Gardiner had origins in Maidenhead, and was educated at Eton College and King's College, Cambridge, being admitted as a scholar in 1542 aged 16, matriculating in 1544, and graduating B.A. 1547, M.A. 1550. He was a Fellow of King's College 1545–55, Proctor 1553–54, and Public Orator 1554–57. He was elected MP for Mitchell in the parliament of 1558. ''The History of Parliament'' comments that "Gardiner’s return to the Parliament of 1558 is not easy to explain. He had no personal ties with Mitchell, where his name was inserted on the indenture in a different hand." He worked as a teller at the Exchequer 1560–1569. He refuted claims of misconduct at the Exchequer reported to William Cecil in 1564, but in 1569 an investigation found that he had defrauded the Queen of nearly £30,000. Thomas Gardiner is a retired American soccer player who played professionally in the Major Indoor Soccer League and was a member of the U.S. team at the 1981 FIFA World Youth Championship. Gardiner graduated from RHAM High School where he was an outstanding soccer player. A member of the 1977 Connecticut High School championship soccer team, he was a 1979 High School All American. Thomas Gardiner Corcoran (December 29, 1900 – December 6, 1981) was one of several advisors in President Franklin D. Roosevelt's brain trust during the New Deal, and later, a close friend and advisor to President Lyndon B. Johnson. Early life Corcoran was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island on December 29, 1900. He matriculated at Brown University, where he graduated as class valedictorian earning bachelor's and master's degrees in 1922. He attended Harvard Law School, graduating high in his class in 1926 and gaining the recognition of Felix Frankfurter. He earned his doctorate in law the next year.
