Thomas Franklin Schneider
Thomas Franklin Schneider (born 1859 in Washington, D.C. — d. 1938) was an American architect who designed about 2,000 houses in the capital city area. Among his important buildings are the Cairo Apartment Building, The Forest Inn, the Rochambeau, the Stoneleigh Court, the Ethelhurst, and his own private home, the Schneider House. Schneider's parents were printers who moved from Germany to Washington, D.C., in 1830. After high school, Schneider worked for the architectural firm of Adolf Cluss and Schultze. While there, he worked on the construction of the Arts and Industries Building. Cairo Apartment Building
The Cairo apartment building, located at 1615 Q Street NW in Washington, D.C., is a landmark in the Dupont Circle neighborhood and the District of Columbia's tallest residential building. Designed by architect Thomas Franklin Schneider and completed in 1894 as the city's first "residential skyscraper", the -tall brick building spurred local regulations and federal legislation limiting building height in the city that continue to shape Washington's skyline. Today, the Cairo is a condominium building, home to renters and owners of apartments ranging in size from small studios to multi-level two- and three-bedroom units. Schneider Triangle
Schneider Triangle is a set of residential buildings designed and built by Thomas Franklin Schneider next to Washington Circle Park in Washington, DC. The twenty two buildings formed a complete block with a central courtyard. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, at which time, only 21 of the buildings remained standing. It forms a triangle due to the street layout of DC. The Embassy of Tajikistan is located in one of the houses. The Schneider Row Houses are the row houses built between 1889 and 1892 on the north and south sides of the 1700 block of Q Street NW in Washington, D.C.
