Thomas W. Fowler (born June 10, 1951) is an American bass guitarist and musician. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, he has played with It's a Beautiful Day, Frank Zappa, The Mothers of Invention, Jean-Luc Ponty, Ray Charles, Steve Hackett, and many others. His brother Bruce Fowler played trombone in The Mothers (as in the album '' Roxy & Elsewhere'') and his other brother Walt was also a horn player for Zappa. He also recorded albums with Air Pocket, a band including his siblings among others. Thomas Fowler (died 1590) was an English lawyer, diplomat, courtier, spy, servant of the Countess of Lennox, broker of the marriage of Mary, Queen of Scots and Lord Darnley, steward of the Earl of Leicester, advisor to James VI of Scotland and the Scottish ambassador in London, Archibald Douglas. John Knox and the English diplomat Thomas Randolph wrote that Thomas Fowler was an Englishman. It is not known if Thomas was any relation of the Scottish poet and royal secretary William Fowler, with whom historians have confused his son William Fowler. The Fowler surname is found in the parish registers of Settrington, Margaret Douglas' Yorkshire manor, and Thomas may have been a member of an English family, or perhaps a Scottish family settled in England, attached to the Lennox household. Fowler's Solution
Fowler's solution is a solution containing 1% potassium arsenite (KAsO2), and was once prescribed as a remedy or a tonic. Thomas Fowler (1736–1801) of Stafford, England, proposed the solution in 1786 as a substitute for a patent medicine, "tasteless ague drop". From 1865, Fowler's solution was a leukemia treatment. From 1905, inorganic arsenicals like Fowler's solution saw diminished use as attention turned to organic arsenicals, starting with Atoxyl. As arsenical compounds are notably toxic and carcinogenic—with side effects such as cirrhosis of the liver, idiopathic portal hypertension, urinary bladder cancer, and skin cancers—Fowler's solution fell from use. Thomas Fowler (born 1777 in Great Torrington, Devon, England – died 31 March 1843) was an England, English inventor whose most notable invention was the thermosiphon which formed the basis of early hot water central heating systems. He also designed and built an early mechanical calculator. Life Much of the knowledge of Fowler comes from his son, the Reverend Hugh Fowler, who produced a biography of his father which was published in the Transactions of the Devonshire Association in 1875. Thomas Fowler (1 September 1832 – 20 November 1904) was an English academic and academic administrator, acting as President of Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford. Early life Fowler was born 1832 in Burton upon Stather, Lincolnshire, son of William Henry Fowler and his wife, Mary Anne Welch. He was educated at King William's College on the Isle of Man, and obtained a Postmastership (undergraduate) at Merton College, Oxford. In 1852, he took a second class in Classical moderations and a first class in mathematics, but he bettered that position in the final schools by taking a first class in classics followed by a first in mathematics in 1854. Academic career In 1855, Fowler was elected a Fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford and was forthwith appointed tutor. Thomas Frederick Fowler (12 March 1841 – 7 January 1915) was an English first-class cricketer and solicitor. The son of George Fowler, he was born at Kennington in March 1841. He was educated at both Giggleswick School and Uppingham School, captaining the school cricket team for the latter. From Uppingham he went up to Christ's College, Cambridge. While studying at Cambridge, he played first-class cricket for Cambridge University in 1863 and 1864, making four appearances. He scored 84 runs in these four matches, with a highest score of 34 not out. He also took 9 wickets with his right-arm roundarm fast, including a five wicket haul against the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) in 1864. Having played in The University Match against Oxford in 1864, Fowler gained his cricket blue. Fowler also played for the MCC from 1864 to 1867, making six appearances.
