Thomas Fitzmaurice, 16th Baron Kerry
Thomas Fitzmaurice, 16th Baron Kerry and Baron Lixnaw (1502–1590) was an Irish nobleman, politician, and peer. Life He was the youngest son of Edmond Fitzmaurice, 10th Baron Kerry, and Una, daughter of Teige MacMahon. He was made heir to the ancestral estates in Clanmaurice, by the death of his elder brothers and their heirs, he owed his knowledge of that event to the fidelity of his old nurse, Joan Harman, who together with her daughter, made her way from Dingle to Milan, where he was serving in the imperial army. On his return, he found his inheritance contested by a certain John fitz Richard, who however, surrendered it in 1552. He was confirmed in his estate by Mary, and on 20 December 1589 executed a deed settling it on his son Patrick and heirs male, remainder to his own right heirs. Thomas Fitzmaurice, 18th Baron Kerry (1574–1630), also called Baron Lixnaw, fought in the Nine Years' War (Ireland), Nine Years' War. Birth and origins Thomas was born in 1574, probably at Lixnaw, the eldest son of Patrick Fitzmaurice, Patrick Fitzmaurice, 17th Baron Kerry and his wife Joan (Jane) Roche. His father was the 17th Baron of Kerry. His father's like his mother's family were Normans in Ireland, Old English. Thomas's mother was a daughter of David Roche, 5th Viscount Fermoy. Desmond rebellion Fitzmaurice followed his father into rebellion in 1598. After the death of his father in August 1600 and the capture of Listowel Castle by Sir Charles Wilmot in November, he found himself excluded by name from all pardons offered to the rebels. He went north, and negotiated for aid with Hugh O'Neill, 2nd Earl of Tyrone and Hugh Roe Ó Donnell. Thomas Fitzmaurice (MP)
The Honourable Thomas Fitzmaurice (July 1742 - 28 October 1793) was a Member of Parliament for Calne (UK Parliament constituency), Calne from 1762 to 1774, and then for Wycombe (UK Parliament constituency), Chipping Wycome until 1780. Early life and family Fitzmaurice was the younger son of John Petty, 1st Earl of Shelburne. His father was the second surviving son of Thomas Fitzmaurice, 1st Earl of Kerry, and his wife Anne Petty, daughter of Sir William Petty. His father changed his surname in 1751 on inheriting the estates of his uncle, Henry Petty, 1st Earl of Shelburne, and was himself created Viscount Fitzmaurice in 1751 and Earl of Shelburne in 1753. His elder brother William Petty, 2nd Earl of Shelburne, William was an MP before he inherited the family titles on his father's death in 1761; he later became Prime Minister of Great Britain in 1782 and was created Marquess of Lansdowne in 1784. Thomas FitzMaurice, 5th Earl Of Orkney
Thomas John Hamilton FitzMaurice, 5th Earl of Orkney (8 August 1803 – 16 May 1877) was the son of John FitzMaurice, Viscount Kirkwall and grandson of Mary FitzMaurice, 4th Countess of Orkney. British prime minister, 1st Marquess of Lansdowne, William Petty-FitzMaurice (died 1805) was his great uncle. He is interred in Latteragh graveyard in County Tipperary, Ireland. Thomas married the Hon. Charlotte Irby on 14 March 1826. The Earl and Countess of Orkney's eldest son George William Hamilton FitzMaurice became the 6th Earl of Orkney. Their fourth son, Alexander Temple FitzMaurice, became a Groom of the Bedchamber in 1867 and later served in the Yeomanry Cavalry. Their fifth son, James Terence FitzMaurice (1835–1917) served in the Royal Navy and was promoted to captain in 1867.
