Pucker Up Stakes
The Pucker Up Stakes is an American Thoroughbred horse race for 3-year-old Filly, fillies held annually in early September at Arlington Park race track near Chicago, Illinois. A Graded stakes race, Grade III event, it is contested over a distance of 9 furlongs (1 1/8 miles) on grass, turf. In 2022, it will be moved to Churchill Downs. The race was named in honor of Ada L. Rice's filly, Pucker Up (horse), Pucker Up. Pucker Up was one of five champions trained by National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, U.S. Racing Hall of Fame trainer James P. Conway. The race was inaugurated in 1961 and was run on the main track until 1974 and again in 1976. In 1974-5, it was run at miles; in 1979 and 1986, the distance was miles. Hollywood Park Racetrack
Hollywood Park was a thoroughbred race course located in Inglewood, California, about 3 miles (5 km) from Los Angeles International Airport and adjacent to the Forum indoor arena. In 1994, the original Hollywood Park Casino was added to the racetrack complex. Horse racing and training were shut down in December 2013 though the casino operations continued until a new state of the art casino building, the new Hollywood Park Casino, opened in October 2016. The track was demolished in stages from 2014 until 2016 and the area is now the site of a master-planned neighborhood in development named Hollywood Park after the former track. The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word ''thoroughbred'' is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. One Dreamer (horse)
One Dreamer (foaled 1988 in Florida) is a retired American Thoroughbred racehorse best known for winning the 1994 Breeders' Cup Distaff. Background One Dreamer was bred and raced by the Glen Hill Farm of Ocala, Florida, owned by Leonard H. Lavin, the founding owner of Alberto-Culver beauty-care products company. The filly was trained by Tom Proctor, Racing career One Dreamer did not race at age two and finished off the board in her one start at age three. During the next three years of racing, though, she made eight starts annually and won four each time. The Breeders' Cup Distaff is a Weight for Age Thoroughbred horse race for fillies and mares, 3 years old and up. Known as the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic between 2008 and 2012, it is held annually at a different racetrack in the United States or Canada as part of the Breeders' Cup World Championships. It is the top ranked race for fillies and mares in North America, and often decides the title for champion three-year-old and / or champion older filly or mare. Hollywood Derby
The Hollywood Derby is a Grade I American Thoroughbred horse race held annually in late November/early December. Now held at Del Mar racetrack in San Diego, California, until 2014 it was held at Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood, California. The race is open to horses aged three and contested at a mile and an eighth on turf. It currently offers a purse of $300,000. Inaugurated in 1938, the race has been a Grade I event since 1973 when grading was first introduced. There was no race from 1942 through 1944 as a result of World War II and it was not run in 2005 as a safety precaution after new grass had been planted on the turf course. It was contested in two divisions from 1981 through 1987.
