Thomas Edwards (fl. 1587–1595) was an English poet who published two Ovidian epic poems ''Cephalus and Procris'' and ''Narcissus''.Charlotte Carmichael Stopes; ''Thomas Edwards, Author of "Cephalus and Procris, Narcissus"; ''The Modern Language Review'', Vol. 16, No. 3/4 (July–October, 1921), pp. 209–223. Beyond his name, nothing is known with certainty of Edwards. He has been provisionally identified with a Shropshire law student of that name who transferred from Furnival's Inn to Lincoln's Inn in June 1587, where he shared a room with a known friend of John Donne. Thomas Adam Edwards (born 22 January 1999) is an English professional footballer who plays as a right back for Stoke City. Early life Edwards was born in Stafford and attended Blessed William Howard Catholic School. Edwards completed his final GCSE year at Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy in Blurton due to its links with the Stoke City Academy. Career Stoke City Edwards joined Stoke City's academy at the age of 11 from Stafford Town and progressed through the ranks to win the under-18 player of the year twice. He became involved in first team duties in 2017–18 and signed a four-year contract with the club in September 2017. Edwards made his Premier League debut on 14 October 2017 against Manchester City and he provided the cross for Stoke's second goal but was stretchered off after picking up an ankle injury. Thomas Leighton Edwards (December 12, 1899 – January 28, 1980) was an American football player. He played college football at the University of Michigan, where he was an All-American tackle for the Michigan Wolverines. Edward played professional football for one season, in 1926, with the New York Yankees of the American Football League and the Detroit Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). Thomas Charles Edwards (22 September 183722 March 1900) was a Welsh minister, writer and academic who was the first Principal of the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. Life Thomas Charles Edwards was born at Llanycil, Bala, Merionethshire, on 22 September 1837. Edwards was the son of Lewis Edwards, founder of the Bala Theological College. His mother was a granddaughter of Thomas Charles, the organiser of Welsh Calvinistic Methodism. He was educated at his father's college in Bala, at St Alban Hall, Oxford and at Lincoln College, Oxford. At Oxford he was deeply influenced by Mark Pattison and Benjamin Jowett, and kept in touch with them for the rest of their lives. He began preaching with the Presbyterian Church of Wales in 1856, and his resolve to become a minister was deepened by the revival of 1858–1859. Thomas Edwards (1729–1785) was an Anglican clergyman and divine. Life Edwards was born at Coventry in August 1729, the son of Thomas Edwards, and educated at the Free Grammar School, King Henry VIII's, there. In 1746 he entered St John's College, Cambridge, but migrated the following year to Clare Hall, graduating B.A. in 1750 and M.A. in 1754, and becoming a fellow of Clare. He was ordained deacon 1751, and priest 1753, by Frederick Cornwallis, bishop of Lichfield and Coventry. In 1755 he published ''A New English Translation of the Psalms,'' &c., and in 1758 a sermon preached at St. Michaels. Thomas Edwards (1599–1647) was an English Puritan clergyman. He was a very influential preacher in London of the 1640s, and was a polemical writer, arguing from a conservative Presbyterian point of view against the Independents. Life He graduated M.A. from Queens' College, Cambridge in 1625, and became a well-known preacher. He continued to reside at Cambridge, where, after taking orders, he was appointed a university preacher, nicknamed 'Young Luther.' In February 1627 he preached a sermon in which he counselled his hearers not to seek carnal advice when in doubt; declared he would testify and teach no other doctrine though the day of judgment were at hand, and was committed to prison until he could find bonds for his appearance before the ecclesiastical courts.
