Thomas Caywood
Thomas E. Caywood (May 9, 1919 – December 19, 2008) was an American computer scientist and cofounder of the Operations Research Society of America. Early life Thomas E. Caywood was born on May 9, 1919, in Lake Park, Iowa, to Alice (née Ballenbach) and Harry E. Caywood, dentist, mayor and township clerk of Lake Park. He graduated from Lake Park High School in 1935. Caywood received a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics and physics from Cornell College in 1939. He then received a Master of Arts in mathematics from Northwestern University in 1940. He went on to join the Harvard Systems Research Laboratory. Having gained a PhD from Harvard University in 1947. His thesis was titled ''Axially Symmetric Harmonic Functions'' and he was advised by Garrett Birkhoff. Career Caywood moved to the Institute for Air Weapons Research at the University of Chicago. Lake Park is a city in Dickinson County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,167 at the time of the 2020 census. Trappers Bay State Park is located just west of the town. Buffalo Center, Iowa
Buffalo Center is a city in Winnebago County, Iowa, United States. The population was 857 at the time of the 2020 census. Its ZIP code is 50424. History Buffalo Center was platted in 1892, and was incorporated as a city later that same year. In 1996, Buffalo Center officially became the host community of the newly-formed North Iowa Community School. Located seven miles south of the Minnesota border, the town was named Buffalo Center because it was midway between the north and south forks of Buffalo Creek. The town was originally built south of the present site and moved north when the Chicago and Iowa Western Railroad set up lines in northern Iowa. It was settled in 1892 on mostly swampy ground, later dredged and tiled. Project Camelot was the code name of a counterinsurgency study begun by the United States Army in 1964. The full name of the project was Methods for Predicting and Influencing Social Change and Internal War Potential. The project was executed by the Special Operations Research Office (SORO) at American University, which assembled an eclectic team of psychologists, sociologists, anthropologists, economists, and other intellectuals to analyze the society and culture of numerous target countries, especially in Latin America. The goal of the project was to enhance the Army's ability to predict and influence social developments in foreign countries.
