Thomas C. Marshall
Thomas C. Marshall (December 14, 1851 – April 23, 1911) was a pioneer, lawyer, judge, and the 3rd Mayor of Missoula, Montana. Biography He was born in Paducah, Kentucky, and elected county judge of Ballard County, Kentucky, when he was 28. He moved to Missoula in 1883 where he and Frank H. Woody formed the law firm "Woody and Marshall", which dissolved four years later. During this time on April 13, 1885, he was elected the 3rd mayor of Missoula, but he would resign four months later on August 6. He would be elected as a Democrat the following year to the Montana Territorial Legislature for two years and for a time was the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee. In 1892, Marshall switched from Democrat to Republican and ran on the Republican ticket for Congress in 1898 to replace retiring Charles S. Hartman but was defeated handily by Albert J. The List of mayors of Missoula, Montana begins with the establishment of the town of Missoula in 1883 (incorporated as a city two years later) with Judge Frank H. Woody serving as mayor. In 1883 Missoula used an aldermanic form of government that was approved with the town charter. The city adopted a commission-council form of government in 1911 with the opening of new City Hall and a council–manager government in 1954 before returning to an aldermanic form of government in 1959. Since January 1, 1997, Missoula has been governed in accordance with the Missoula City Charter, which calls for a mayor-council system of government. The Silver Republican Party, later known as the Lincoln Republican Party, was a United States political party from 1896 to 1901. It was so named because it split from the Republican Party by supporting free silver (effectively, expansionary monetary policy) and bimetallism. The history of Missoula, Montana begins as early as 12,000 years ago with the end of the region's glacial lake period with western exploration dating back to the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804–1806. The first permanent settlement was founded in 1860.
