Thomas Butler (judge)
Thomas Butler (died after 1496) was an Irish judge, who held the office of Master of the Rolls in Ireland. He was a cousin of John Butler, 6th Earl of Ormonde, although little is known of his own parents. The Butlers had backed the losing side in the Wars of the Roses, and Ormonde's brother James Butler, 5th Earl of Ormonde had been attainted and executed for treason as a result, but the 6th Earl was quickly pardoned by the new King Edward IV, who greatly admired him. Ormonde may have recommended his cousin as a royal servant: in 1478 Butler was groom of the King's chamber, while his wife Agnes was described as "former nurse to the royal children"; specifically she had been nurse to Anne of York, the King's fifth daughter, who was born in November 1475. Thomas was bailiff of the royal manors of Solihull and Yardley. In 1492 he was sent back to Ireland as Master of the Rolls in Ireland. Tommy Butler (hurler)
Thomas Butler (1951 - 12 November 2020) was an Irish hurler. At club level he played with Drom & Inch and was also a member of the Tipperary senior hurling team. He usually lined out as a forward. Career Butler first came to prominence at juvenile and underage levels with the Drom & Inch club, as well as lining out with Templemore CBS. He made his senior debut at club level as a 15-year-old in 1966 and won two Mid Tipperary Championship titles in a career that spanned four decades. Butler first appeared on the inter-county scene with the Tipperary under-21 team, having earlier failed to make the minor team. His three years in the under-21 grade yielded a Munster Under-21 Championship title in 1972. Butler was later drafted onto the Tipperary senior hurling team and made his debut against Limerick in the last game of the 1973-74 league. Thomas Butler (Paralympic Swimmer)
Thomas Rockett Butler (14 February 1913 – 2 June 1963) was the second Australian to participate in the International Stoke Mandeville Games, the precursor to the modern Paralympic Games, when he represented Australia in swimming in 1953 and again in 1954. Butler won the backstroke event in swimming at the 2nd International Stoke Mandeville Games in 1953, and was awarded his medal by the Parliamentary Secretary for Health, Patricia Hornsby-Smith. Butler placed second in the same event in 1954. Charlene Todman, who competed in table tennis in 1951, had been the first Australian to participate in the International Stoke Mandeville Games. Born in Townsville, Queensland, Butler was working as a farm hand in Western Australia by 1936. Butler made his first appearance for the team during the 1927 championship and was a regular player over the course of the next decade. Thomas Butler (died 11 November 1923) was an English footballer who played as an inside-left. He played 60 league games in the English Football League, scoring 23 goals. He played for non-League Willenhall, before spending the 1921–22 season at Walsall. He joined Port Vale via Darlaston in December 1922. He broke his arm in a game on 3 November 1923, and died eight days later from a subsequent tetanus infection. Career Butler started his career at Birmingham & District League side Willenhall, before joining Walsall in 1921. He played 28 Third Division North games for the "Saddlers" in 1921–22, scoring 12 goals. He then returned to semi-professional football with Darlaston. He had a one-month trial at Second Division Port Vale in December 1922, and manager Joe Schofield signed him permanently for £100 the following month. Thomas Anthony Butler (born 25 April 1981) is a former professional footballer who last played for Swansea City in the Premier League. He has played for the Republic of Ireland at under-21 and senior level. Club career Sunderland Butler started his career at Sunderland, and as a youngster forged himself a reputation as one of the Republic of Ireland's brightest stars and he gained acclaim when he was named the Republic of Ireland's Under-15 Player of the Year in 1997.
