Bad Salzungen () is a town in Thuringia, Germany. It is the capital of the Wartburgkreis district. Geography Location Bad Salzungen is situated on the river Werra, east of Tiefenort and south of Eisenach. Divisions In July 2018 the former municipalities of Ettenhausen an der Suhl, Frauensee and Tiefenort were merged into Bad Salzungen. In December 2020 the former municipality Moorgrund was absorbed. In total the municipality consists of the central town (''Kernstadt'') and 21 sections (''Ortsteile''). Cross-country skiing at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held at the Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Centre in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The twelve events took place between 10 and 25 February 2018. Qualification A maximum of 310 quota spots were available to athletes to compete at the games. A maximum of 20 athletes could be entered by a National Olympic Committee, with a maximum of 12 men or 12 women. There were two qualification standards for the games: an A standard and a B standard. The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 took place between 18 February and 1 March 2015 in Falun, Sweden. This was the fourth time the event is held there, having previously been held there in 1954, 1974 and 1993. In 1980, one World Ski Championship race was held there as well, to make up for its exclusion from the Olympic Games the same year. Host selection At the International Ski Federation (FIS) Council meeting in November 2007, a Candidates project concept was highlighted for use. Candidacy submission was 1 May 2009 along with the registration fee and training days in article 5 of the FIS World Championships Organization Rules. Each candidate and its National Ski Association will have instructions and a detailed questionnaire provided by the FIS that will be due on 1 September 2009.
