Sir Thomas Bernard, 3rd Baronet
Sir Thomas Bernard, 3rd Baronet (27 April 17501 July 1818) was an English social reformer whose father, as governor of the Province of New Jersey (1758-1760) and Province of Massachusetts Bay (1760–1770), played a responsible part in directing the British policy which led to the revolt of the American colonies. Life He was born at Lincoln, the younger son of Sir Francis Bernard, 1st Baronet. Rather late in his life, on the death of his elder brother in 1810, Bernard succeeded to the baronetcy conferred on his father in 1768. His early education was obtained at Harvard College, in which his father took a great interest. He then acted as confidential secretary to his father during the troubles which led (1769) to the governor's recall, and accompanied Sir Francis to England, where he was called to the bar, and practised as a conveyancer. He married a rich wife, and acquired a considerable fortune, and then devoted most of his time to social work for the benefit of the poor. Fro ... Thomas Bernard (Irish Politician)
Thomas Bernard (c. 1769 – 18 May 1834) was an Irish politician. He was the son of Thomas Bernard of Castle Bernard, Birr, King's County (now County Offaly), and his first wife, Mary, daughter of Jonathan Willington, of Castle Willington. He commissioned the building of a new gothic mansion on the family estate named Kinnitty Castle. He was appointed High Sheriff of King's County for 1798–1799. He was then elected at the 1802 general election as a Member of Parliament (MP) for King's County (now County Offaly), holding the seat until 1833. He died intestate in Dublin in 1834. He had married twice: firstly the Hon. Elizabeth Prittie, daughter of Henry Prittie, 1st Baron Dunalley, and secondly Catherine Henrietta, the daughter of Francis Hely-Hutchinson, MP, with whom he had four sons and two daughters. Sir Thomas Tyringham Bernard, 6th Baronet (15 September 1791 – 8 May 1883) was a British Liberal Party politician and baronet. Bernard was the son of Sir Scrope Bernard-Morland, 4th Baronet and Hannah Morland and was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. In 1816 he served as High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire. He was elected at 1857 general election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Aylesbury. He was re-elected in 1859, and held the seat until he stood down at the 1865 general election. Thomas Dehany Bernard (1815–1904) was an English Anglican cleric, Bampton Lecturer in 1864. He was an evangelical interested in mission work. Life The second son of Charles Bernard of Eden Estate, Jamaica, and his wife Margaret, daughter of John Baker of Waresley House, Worcestershire, he was born at Clifton, Bristol on 11 November 1815; Mountague Bernard was his brother. After private education he matriculated in December 1833 at Exeter College, Oxford, He graduated B.A. in 1838, when he won the Ellerton theological prize with an essay ''On the Conduct and Character of St. Peter''. In 1839 he was awarded the chancellor's prize for an English essay on ''The Classical Taste and Character compared with the Romantic''. Colonel Thomas Bernard (September 1816 – 13 December 1882) was an Anglo-Irish British Army officer and official. Bernard was the son of Thomas Bernard and Lady Catherine Henrietta Hely-Hutchinson. Nicolaas Thomas Bernhard (; 9 February 1931 – 12 February 1989) was an Austrian novelist, playwright and poet who explored death, social injustice, and human misery in controversial literature that was deeply pessimistic about modern civilization in general and Austrian culture in particular. Bernhard's body of work has been called "the most significant literary achievement since World War II." He is widely considered to be one of the most important German-language authors of the postwar era.
