Thomas Austin (pastoralist)
Thomas Austin (181515 December 1871) was an English settler in Australia who is generally noted for the introduction of rabbits into Australia in 1859, even though rabbits had been brought previously to Australia by the First Fleet. Personal life Thomas Austin was born at Baltonsborough, Somerset, England, the youngest son of John Austin and Nancy, née Lucas. In 1831 he arrived with other members of his family in Hobart Town, Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania). Established the first ferry crossing the Derwent River, with his uncle and cousin in the township which is now Austin’s Ferry. After farming near Ouse, Thomas and his brother James crossed Bass Strait in 1837 and settled as pioneer pastoralists in the Western District of the Port Phillip District (now called Victoria). Thomas Austin (American Football)
Thomas Adam Austin V (born November 14, 1986) and was most recently the offensive line coach at Clemson and a former American football center. He was signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He played college football at Clemson. He has also been a member of the New England Patriots, Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers, and Indianapolis Colts. He married Margaret Hall Austin after their junior year at Clemson and they have four children including their oldest Thomas “Adam” Austin VI. Thomas Talbert Leon Austin (9 March 1857 – 11 February 1941), commonly known as Tal Austin, was a New Zealand cricketer and rugby union player. He played nine first-class cricket matches for the Otago cricket team, including one as captain, between 1878 and 1889, and made five appearances for the rugby union team between 1879 and 1883. Biography Born in Melbourne, Victoria, on 9 March 1857, Austin was from a well-known cricketing family in Dunedin. Along with his three brothers—Gerry, Ernest James ("Tern"), and Bob—he was a member of the Carisbrook cricket club in Dunedin for many years from the early 1870s. Sir Thomas Austin, KCIE (20 July 1887 – 27 June 1976) was a British civil servant of the Indian civil service and administrator who served as the Diwan of Travancore from 1932 to 1934. Early life Thomas Austin was born in 1887 to a British clergyman, Rev. T. Austin. He was educated at Plymouth College and Jesus College, Cambridge. Indian civil service Thomas Austin entered the Indian Civil Service in 1910 and served in various junior positions before being appointed District Collector of Nilgiris in 1929. He served as Collector of Nilgiris from 1929 to 1932 when he was appointed the Diwan of Travancore on a two-year contract. Tom Austin (politician)
Thomas Leslie Austin (24 September 1923 – 1 June 2002) was an Australian politician. He was born in Melbourne to Leslie Albert Austin, a farmer, and Nora Bradfute Cunningham. After attending Geelong Grammar School, he served in the Royal Australian Navy from 1941 to 1945 as a sub-lieutenant. On his return he was a woolclasser from 1946 to 1947, when he became a sharefarmer. He settled in Darlington in 1950. In 1972 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the Liberal member for Hampden, shifting to Ripon in 1976. He was appointed Minister for Public Works and Minister for Property and Services in 1978, moving to the Agriculture portfolio in 1980.
