István Thomán
István Thomán (; 4 November 186222 September 1940) was a Hungarian piano virtuoso and music educator. He was a notable piano teacher, with students including Béla Bartók, Ernő Dohnányi, Paul de Marky who later taught Oscar Peterson in Quebec, Gisela Selden-Goth, and Georges Cziffra. His six-volume ''Technique of Piano Playing'' is still in use today. Early life and education Thomán was born in Homonna, Zemplén County, Kingdom of Hungary (now in Slovakia) in 1862 to Jewish parents, Dr. David Thomán and Rosa Weisberger. Recognised for his talent, he became a favorite student of Franz Liszt. Nick Thoman
Nicholas Brewer Thoman (born March 6, 1986) is an American competition swimmer who specializes in the backstroke and is an Olympic gold medalist. He has won two world championships as a member of winning United States medley relay teams at the FINA World Aquatics Championships. From 2009 to 2015 he held the world record in the 100-meter backstroke (short course). Thoman has won a total of ten medals in major international competition, four gold, three silver, and three bronze spanning the Olympics, World Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, Pan American Games, and the Summer Universiade. He was a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team, and won gold and silver medals at the 2012 Summer Olympics. On December 6, 2013, at the U.S. national championships in Knoxville Tennessee, Thoman set three American records in one evening. Thoman Burgkmair
Thoman Burgkmair, or Thomas Burgkmair (died 1523) was a German painter. Life The father of Hans Burgkmair, and the father-in-law of Hans Holbein the elder, he is mentioned in the records of the Painters' Guild at Augsburg in 1460, and in public documents there in 1479. In 1480 he painted a ''Christ with St. Ulric'' and a ''Virgin with St. Elizabeth of Thuringia'', both in the cathedral at Augsburg; the gallery of that city also possesses a picture by him of the ''Martyrdom of St. Stephen, St. Lawrence, and scenes from the Passion''. Burgkmair died at Augsburg in 1523.
