Thoko Ntshinga
Thoko Ntshinga (born 1953), is a South African actress, director, translator, community theatre facilitator and arts activist. She is best known for the roles in the television serials such as; ''Egoli: Place of Gold'', ''Interrogation Room'' and ''The River''. Personal life Ntshinga was born in 1953 in Langa, Cape Town, South Africa to a musical family. Career Her acting career started in 1970s with theatre plays. When she was a single parent with a two year-old daughter, she made into an audition notice for the Space Theatre. The Space Theatre (also called the Space, ''Die Ruimte'' in Afrikaans, The Peoples' Space and reincarnated as the New Space Theatre in 2008) was a fringe theatre in Cape Town, South Africa which was active in the 1970s. It re-opened in late 2008. History The original Space was founded in Cape Town in May 1972 by theatre photographer Brian Astbury and his actress wife Yvonne Bryceland and relocated in 1976 to the YMCA building 44 Long Street. The Space established itself as a defiantly non-racial venue in a racially divided country. Taken over by Moyra Fine and Rob Amato after Astbury and Bryceland left, it survived as The People's Space for some two years before succumbing to overwhelming financial pressures. The Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards are annual South African theatre awards focusing on professional productions staged in and around Cape Town. Awards are presented in 20 categories. History The Fleur du Cap Theatre Awards were originally known as the Three Leaf Arts Awards. The first awards were made in 1965 for the preceding year's productions. The awards were instituted by the United Tobacco Company, who sponsored them until 1977. The series focuses on the lives of residents staying in and around the community of 7de Laan (7th Avenue), in the suburb of Hillside. The street and shopfronts which are featured on the opening visuals, are that of Seventh Street in Melville, Johannesburg. History Odendaal originally conceived of the series when he was a resident of the Melville section of Johannesburg.
