''This Movie Is Broken'' is a 2010 Canadian film directed by Bruce McDonald (director), Bruce McDonald. A cross between a romantic comedy and a concert film, the film stars Greg Calderone as Bruno, a young man hoping to convince his longtime crush Caroline (Georgina Reilly) to become his girlfriend by taking her to a Broken Social Scene concert at Harbourfront Centre, Harbourfront. The concert segments were recorded at the band's Harbourfront show on July 11, 2009, following the cancellation of that year's Olympic Island Festival due to the 2009 City of Toronto inside and outside workers strike, 2009 Toronto strike. Bruce McDonald (director)
Bruce McDonald (born May 28, 1959) is a Canadian film and television director, writer, and producer. Born in Kingston, Ontario, he rose to prominence in the 1980s as part of the loosely-affiliated Toronto New Wave. McDonald has directed more than a dozen features films over the course of his three-decade-long filmmaking career. ''The Hollywood Reporter'' has called him an "iconoclastic filmmaker". Several of his films, ranging from mockumentaries to horror films, have attracted cult followings. ''Before Sunset'' is a 2004 American romantic drama film directed by Richard Linklater, who co-wrote the screenplay with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, from a story by Linklater and Kim Krizan. The sequel to ''Before Sunrise'' (1995) and the second installment in the ''Before'' trilogy, ''Before Sunset'' follows Jesse (Hawke) and Céline (Delpy) as they reunite nine years later in Paris. Linklater, Krizan, Hawke and Delpy began developing a larger budget sequel after the release of ''Before Sunrise'', but failed to secure funding.
