''This Is Hell'' is the first EP from the band This Is Hell. After quickly forming the band and releasing a demo ep, This Is Hell returned to the studio to work on their next release. For an early release, ''This is Hell'' generated a lot of hype and received good reviews. Some critics still argue that this was the bands finest work to date. The sound of the EP is a continuation and expansion of the sound on their previous release. This release has more professionally done mixing and recording. It shows an even more aggressive side of the band not previously seen. Also featured on this EP are the addition of Glassjaw's singer Daryl Palumbo on the final track. The final track is also a cover of hardcore punk band 108. This Is Hell is an American hardcore punk band from Long Island, New York. The band is known for extensive touring and high energy concerts. They have released five studio albums and five EPs. History Early days and formation (2004) This Is Hell formed in June 2004 when Long Island musicians and members of The Backup Plan, Scraps and Heart Attacks, and Subterfuge got together after their previous bands broke up. The name of the band was originally the title of an Elvis Costello song. The band quickly released a four-song self titled demo EP which was later pressed onto vinyl via Boston label Run for Cover Records and in Europe via Broken Glasses Records. Hardcore Punk
Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Its roots can be traced to earlier punk scenes in San Francisco and Punk rock in California, Southern California which arose as a reaction against the still predominant History of the hippie movement, hippie cultural climate of the time. It was also inspired by Washington D.C. and New York City, New York punk rock and early proto-punk. This Is Hell Demo
This Is Hell Demo was the very first physical release of songs recorded by hardcore punk band This Is Hell. The album was untitled and released on both CD and 7" vinyl formats, also in Europe on Broken Glasses Records (distributed by NO PANIC! Records now). All formats are out of print and difficult to find. The song "Wreck Your Life" was later released on a label sampler cd from Trustkill, the label that This Is Hell later signed to and released their debut full length "Sundowning," but not before a stint on State On Mind Recordings who released their self-titled EP. On that same song, the opening line of the lyric includes the band's name, and was possibly the inspiration for the name. The lyric reads: "Brandon put it best when he told me 'this is hell,' wiser words have never been said." ''Sundowning'' is the debut full-length album by Long Island hardcore punk band This Is Hell. The title refers to the sundowning associated with dementia that is common in Alzheimer's disease. The success of the album landed This Is Hell in the "100 Bands You Need To Know for 2006" in popular music magazine ''Alternative Press''. Daryl Palumbo lends his vocals to the track "Procession Commence" and it is the second time Palumbo has provided guest vocals for a This Is Hell release. Glassjaw
Glassjaw is an American post-hardcore band from Hempstead, New York. The band is fronted by vocalist Daryl Palumbo and guitarist Justin Beck, and was a major part of the Long Island music scene in the early 2000s. The band has been influential in the progression of the underground music scene in the eastern United States and United Kingdom for the post-hardcore genre, and are known for their intense live shows as well as their frequent line-up changes. Daryl Palumbo
Daryl Palumbo (born February 10, 1979) is an American musician, originally from Bellmore, New York. He is the frontman of the bands Glassjaw, Head Automatica and Color Film. As a youth he was a member of the Long Island straight edge band ''XbustedX.'' In 1993 he met guitarist Justin Beck, who would become his good friend. Together they formed Glassjaw. Palumbo has Crohn's disease, which has acted as inspiration for much of his musical output, most notably in the lyrical content of Glassjaw's major label debut ''Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence''. His affliction has affected his bands' ability to tour, including the cancellation of a tour with The Used in 2005. 108 is an American hardcore band founded in 1991. Their music reflects the Hare Krishna faith of the band members. History After splitting from the Zack De La Rocha-fronted band Inside Out, guitarist and Hare Krishna devotee Vraja Kishor das (aka Vic DiCara) formed 108 in 1991. While recording an EP, Rasaraja dasa (aka Rob Fish) joined on vocals. Following in the footsteps of the Cro-Mags and Antidote, they made sure to place their Krishna Consciousness at the forefront of their music. Their first records, ''Holyname'' and ''Songs of Separation'', were released on Equal Vision Records. The bass guitar, electric bass or simply bass (), is the lowest-pitched member of the string family. It is a plucked string instrument similar in appearance and construction to an electric or an acoustic guitar, but with a longer neck and scale length, and typically four to six strings or courses.
