This Is Acting
''This Is Acting'' is the seventh studio album by Australian singer and songwriter Sia. It was released on 29 January 2016 by Inertia, Monkey Puzzle and RCA Records. The album is mostly composed of songs written by Sia for other pop artists that were not included on their albums. Sia described songwriting for others as "play-acting," hence the title ''This Is Acting''. "Alive", the album's lead single, was released on 24 September 2015. The second single, " Cheap Thrills", was released on 11 February 2016. It reached the top 5 in a number of markets and marked Sia's first number one on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100. A remix of the track featuring guest vocals from Sean Paul was also released. A deluxe edition of ''This Is Acting'' was released on 21 October 2016 featuring seven new tracks, including solo and Kendrick Lamar-assisted versions of the single " The Greatest". "The Greatest" is a song recorded by Australian singer and songwriter Sia for the deluxe edition of her seventh studio album, ''This Is Acting'' (2016). Being made available for digital consumption as the record's third single on 6 September 2016 through Monkey Puzzle and RCA Records, "The Greatest" features a new part with the American rapper Kendrick Lamar. The electropop song was written by Sia, Greg Kurstin, and Lamar while production was only handled by Kurstin. The solo version was written only by the former two. The song was originally intended to be in a new album called ''We Are Your Children''. An accompanying music video for the single was filmed by Sia and Daniel Askill, and features American dancer Maddie Ziegler surrounded by 48 different young people. The album-equivalent unit, or album equivalent, is a measurement unit in music industry to define the consumption of music that equals the purchase of one album copy. This consumption includes streaming and song downloads in addition to traditional album sales. The album-equivalent unit was introduced in the mid-2010s as an answer to the drop of album sales in the 21st century. Album sales more than halved from 1999 to 2009, declining from a $14.6 to $6.3 billion industry. For instance, the only albums that went platinum in the United States in 2014 were the '' Frozen'' soundtrack and Taylor Swift's ''1989'', whereas several artists' works had in 2013.
